New album Night Network and 2021 tour coming up

Get Night Network here

Most bands start off in school or university but The Cribs made their debut at an even younger age. That’s probably made somewhat easier by the fact that the trio are all brothers. Twins Ryan (vocals, guitar) and Gary (bass, vocals) were nine and younger brother Ross (drums) was five when they made their debut at a Jarman family party.

The band formed officially in 2001 and it wasn’t long before they landed a support slot with one of their idols, Bobby Conn. Conn liked what he heard and invited the band to Chicago to record at his studio. Some of those sessions made their way onto The Cribs’ 2004 self-titled debut.

Before their debut had even landed in the US, the Jarmans had returned to the studio, this time with Orange Juice’s Edwyn Collins producing. In 2005, their debut came out in America, followed later that year by their second album The New Fellas. Extensive touring and numerous festival appearances followed.

Another new record followed with another high-profile producer, this time Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand. Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever was released in 2007 and soon after, the band crossed paths with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. Marr became a regular guest on stage during the band’s stint on the NME awards tour and became the first official, non-Jarman member of the band in 2008.

The band moved even further away from their lo-fi roots with their fourth album, Ignore The Ignorant, produced by seminal post-punk producer Nick Launay (The Birthday Party, PiL, Gang Of Four) and bearing the hallmarks of Marr’s distinctive playing.

Marr left the group in 2011 to concentrate on his solo career and The Cribs headed back to America to record their fifth album with in-demand producer Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Sparklehorse, Interpol, Spoon). In The Belly Of The Brazen Bull arrived in 2012 and marked a shift back towards the raw sound of the pre-Marr days.

The band’s roster of big-name producers increased once more with their sixth album For All My Sister, recorded with The Cars’ Ric Ocasek behind the controls. The record’s notable pop sheen was in stark contrast to their seventh album, 2017’s 24/7 Rock Star S***, which veered off down a decidedly more punk rock route, recorded in just five days with producer Steve Albini.

In August 2020, the band announced that their eight album Night Network was set for November of that year. The Cribs also announced a 2021 UK tour to support the album.
