About
Metalcore band from Kentucky credited with helping to revive the genre in the 2010s
It’s been traditionally hard for publications to pin Knocked Loose to a genre, which seems to be exactly how they like it. But whether the band themselves sit comfortably in metalcore or not, there’s no denying their influence on the genre – particularly the revival of the late 2010s. Formed in 2013, Knocked Loose released their debut EP, Pop Culture, the following year. Over the next couple of years they would support bands such as Counterparts, The Acacia Strain and Stick To Your Guns, all whilst gearing up to release their first full-length record.
Knocked Loose released Laugh Tracks in 2016. A culmination of the work they had been doing up that point, the album was surer in its sound than any previous release and immediately popular with critics. It allowed the band to continue working and touring with a roster of influential rock and hardcore acts, and also to launch their own headline US tour. The release of 2019’s A Different Shade Of Blue, another commercial success, saw the band head back on the road again for an even bigger headliner. It included support from Stick To Your Guns, who Knocked Loose had opened for back in 2016.
In 2021, without warning, Knocked Loose released A Tear In The Fabric Of Life. The EP saw the band explore grief and the process of navigating it, a story told both through the record and through an accompanying animated short. The band’s next surprise release came in 2023 with the double single Upon Loss, featuring ‘Deep In The Willow’ and ‘Everything Is Quiet Now’.
