About
The ragga-metal pioneers from Wales
Following the disbandment of Newport's Dub War, enigmatic vocalist Benji Webbe teamed up with bassist Daniel Pugsley, guitarist Mikey Dee, and drummer Arya Goggin to form Skindred in 1998. Releasing their debut full-length Babylon in 2002, the band quickly established their innovative blend of socially charged ragga and metal. Securing the attention of Lava Records, Skindred re-released the album two years later propelling them into the heart of the alternative scene. An unrelenting touring schedule saw them perform across the country, into Europe and the United States, expanding their fan base with their energetic and vibrant sound and live show.
Singles such as Nobody and Pressure dominated in alternative clubs across the country, cementing their cult status and gearing them up for the release of their sophomore album Roots Rock Riot in 2007. Shark Bites And Dog Fights followed two years later, before the band signed to BMG for the release of their fourth studio album, Union Black in 2011.
Kill The Power followed in 2014, securing their highest UK chart position to date, reaching No.28 on the official album list and No.3 on the UK metal chart. The success saw them team up with Napalm Records, who released Volume in 2015. In 2018 they hit the top spot on the UK metal chart with their seventh studio album Big Tings, also climbing to No.26 on the official UK album chart and beating their previous best. For the album's lead single, Skindred teamed up with Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell and Reef vocalist Gary Stringer.
In September 2020, Skindred announced their Showtime tour featuring special guests Royal Republic. "Playing live is the lifeblood of what we do as a band," said Goggin of the news, "so to be back on the road again and seeing fans and friends and all those that we have missed is something that we simply cannot wait for."
