About

The beloved jazz vocalist

Gregory Porter may be instantly recognisable from his trademark deerstalker cap, but his sonorous, Grammy-winning voice speaks for itself. Born in California in 1971, Porter grew up in a musical household and began singing in church, where his mother was a pastor and his father a singer.

After an injury hindered his hopes to pursue American Football, Porter turned to his vocal talents and moved to New York City in 2004 to build a career. After performing local shows and earning himself a residency, in 2010 he released his debut Water. Porter's popularity rocketed from the underground jazz scene to the mainstream in 2013, when his third full-length Liquid Spirit – his first on Blue Note Records – won Best Jazz Vocal Album at the Grammy's. Three years later its follow-up, Take Me to the Alley, won the same award. In 2017 he released Nat "King" Cole & Me, a buttery smooth ode to one of his musical heroes.

In 2024, Porter announced an extensive UK tour for spring 2025 with Jo Harrop in support.

  • Wow! What a voice!

by Gunner on 12/05/2025SEC Armadillo - GlasgowRating: 5 out of 5

A fabulous warm up act who and her pianist should have been given more than 20 minutes, especially as there was then a 40 minute break before Gregory appeared He has a voice like warm melting chocolate, silky smooth and you want more of it. The musicians backing Gregory were fantastic, especially the double base and saxaphone players. Great audience interaction.

  • What a Man

by SteD on 12/05/2025SEC Armadillo - GlasgowRating: 5 out of 5

Gregory Porter is just fantastic and he comes across as such a gentleman. A brilliant voice and entertainer. Love the way he lets his band showcase themselves individually. A great night of music in a great venue. The SEC Glasgow Armadillo. Hotels within a 3 min walk to the venue. Booked with ease through Ticketmaster.

  • Was okay

by Anonymous on 12/05/2025SEC Armadillo - GlasgowRating: 3 out of 5

Gregory was excellent as always and support very good. The space in between was far too long Gregory should have come on straight after the support. Some of the songs lasted too long, been a few times to see Gregory and this was the most disappointing so far, not a lot of new songs introduced.

  • Great performance. Shame about the auditorium.

by KennyT on 12/05/2025SEC Armadillo - GlasgowRating: 4 out of 5

3rd time seeing Gregory Porter, but 1st time eeing him at the Armadillo. Faultless performance, playing all our personal favourites. Unfortunately the Armadillo did not seem to recognize the need for ventilation or air conditioning. The auditorium was very warm and stuffy, with most audience members in the stalls getting more & more audibly uncomfortable. If only this gad been addressed it would have been the perfect night out.

  • Pure Gold

What a voice Gregory Porter has! Music to soothe the soul.

  • Amazing

by AndyU on 11/05/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 5 out of 5

Gregory and his band were outstanding. That sound was superb, not too lound but dynamic when it needed to be. The staff at the Co-Op Area were very professional and helpful. I'm so blessed to have this fantastic venue close to where I live.

  • Brilliant concert

by Suffolkgirl on 11/05/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 5 out of 5

We were a bit anxious as first timers using the phone app to access the parking in the blue zone and the actual concert venue. However it all went very smoothly ( although the Coop Live app was unhelpful. The Ticketmaster worked well). All the staff, manning the car park, those directing people, the security people etc were so friendly and helpful and we got to our seats quite easily. Suggestion: more portaloos nearer to carparks would have been helpful as there was no general ticket entry til 6.30. The seats were also a bit 'snug' especially for those with longer legs. Apart from that, a wonderful evening with Gregory and his amazing band. Didn't want it to end!

  • A wonderful evening

by Sayeed on 11/05/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 5 out of 5

What a fantastic evening. Gregory was on form and his voice was just brilliant. He played many classics from his album but they were just so much better than on the record. I would go to see him again

  • Gregory Porter

by Chynna on 11/05/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Wonderful the guy can sing. The venue needs improving on information, people skills, what's available. Need seating area inside and outside waiting areas The show was well worth the wait finically and time. Gregory and his team what a show.

  • Gregory Porter is brilliant.

    by Tony59 on 11/05/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 5 out of 5

Gregory Porter may be the finest singer of his generation. Powerful and gentle. Fabulous musicians supporting. The songs are better and more vibrant than on the albums. May not be the best place to experience Mr Porter as co-op live lacks the intimacy the music needs. But the sound quality is excellent and the climate control is perfect within the arena. Getting in and out of the arena was easy.

  • Great performance, awful venue

by Muzzik on 11/05/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 3 out of 5

Gregory Porter and his band put on an amazing show. His voice was incredible and his band were all top notch players. And now the venue. Starting with the car park. The queue was much longer to get in because the scanners were struggling to read the phone screen pre-booked tickets and when some needed to buy a ticket on the day, they only had one working machine and that took a few minutes to do each ticket. Very amateur at best. The seats in the venue are extremely uncomfortable and the leg room was restrictive for anyone over 6 feet tall. That itself has put me off going to Coop Live again. The bar service was ok, but £9 a pint is ridiculous. Great performance, poor venue

  • Could not believe that people were able to bring down food

by Sue on 11/05/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 3 out of 5

The show was brilliant but was not impressed with the situation that people could bring cooked food pizza chips etc and sit beside you during the show eating .

  • FAB-U-LOUS!!!!

by Tanya M. on 03/05/2025Royal Albert Hall - LondonRating: 5 out of 5

Seven months I bought these tickets for my fiancé as a special birthday treat. We have both followed Gregory Porter's journey and listened to his music over the years and this was the first time I managed to grab us a pair of tickets. And boy, was he worth the wait! From the 1st song to the last, he had us all transfixed with his voice and the acoustics in the Royal Albert Hall sounded absolutely amazing, which only enriched his voice and the band even more! Gregory is in a league of his own. Move over Barry White! Mr Porter has arrived, claimed his prize and is here to stay. Long may he reign! 😊x

  • An amazing show - thank you Gregory

by Kim on 02/05/2025Royal Albert Hall - LondonRating: 5 out of 5

If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. An exceptional show, the only downside was it had to finish ! Thank you to Gregory and team for a fantastic evening

  • Gregory fab, keyboard wars not so much

    by Wolfie59 on 30/04/2025Rating: 4 out of 5

Gregory was perfect, once the Royal Albert Hall (29/4/2025) had got the balance right so you could hear him over the band. But, oh the band - fantastic sax, trumpet, bass, trombone, drummer, backing singers but the competitive pianist who was determined to hog as much time as he could at the expense of the organ player and others just made for a discordant cacophony. Sorry, but let Gregory sing (that's who we went to see) and leave your dualling pianos at home. What a racket. Spoilt it for me.

  • Gregory Porter - Leeds 1st Arena 26th April '25

by Squire Foxley on 28/04/2025First Direct Arena - LeedsRating: 5 out of 5

I'd heard Gregory Porter on radio and seen him on TV and going to this gig was a bit of an afterthought. How come? I'd been given a gift card from Ticketmaster which was about to expire and I didn't want it to go to waste so, I looked and thought this could be OK but not entirely sure. I'm so glad we went! Gregory Porter is a fantastic singer with a brilliant backing band and a collection of songs which will touch your heart, make you dance and make you think! If you get the opportunity to see him live grab it! If you love Soul, Jazz, Blues or Gospel he's for you!

  • Gregory Porter in Leeds

Gregory's super voice and band gave a great show / performance in a good venue. Jo Harris was a good "warm up" act too.

  • Absolutely fabulous. A tick off my bucket list!!

by MJG on 27/04/2025First Direct Arena - LeedsRating: 5 out of 5

...and overwhelmingly beautiful. Gregory and the band were authentically magnificent. I left the show feeling peaceful. I had received the most transcendent lullaby.
