About

Climbing the vine to neo-soul superstardom

When listing our generation’s leading R&B stars, the likes of SZA, Summer Walker, Kehlani, Brent Faiyaz, Lucky Daye, and Ambré no doubt occupy the upper echelons. But another artist likely to join those ranks is Destin Conrad, whose freer perspective of the genre fuses soul, rock, pop, and more.

Born in Tampa, Florida, and raised by a proud single mother of Jamaican heritage, Destin Conrad was relocated to Los Angeles after his mother recognised his passion and prowess singing in a local church. “My mother says I could sing before I could talk,” the artist shared. However, it wasn’t music which first brought Conrad into the mainstream consciousness.

As a confident and preternaturally charming 14 year old, Conrad stumbled into fame from a relatively early age thanks to the now-defunct app Vine, amassing over a million followers by pulling goofy faces and practising his dance moves. Posting his first video titled ‘THUTA THUTA THU TO THE LEFT’ on 12 February 2014, he went viral from the get-go.

Strangely enough, he found a fan in music legend Lionel Richie, who later featured in one of his videos. Though it was another of his star-studded followers who became both friend and surrogate family member, later playing a prominent role in Destin Conrad’s transition from social media personality to subtly seductive soul singer.

Kehlani befriended Conrad during his teenage years, and encouraged him to pursue his main passion: music. Releasing his debut single ‘CAUTIOUS’ in 2019, Conrad's uniquely silky coo was clear. His talents weren’t just as a singer however. Conrad further proved his credentials as a songwriter having contributed to ‘Everybody Business’ and ‘Water’ from Kehlani’s 2020 Billboard No.2 charting album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, which offered him a gateway to fully go it alone.

Utilising the 190,000 plus followers he’d attracted on YouTube during his days on social media, Conrad self-released his succinct yet cinematic debut EP, COLORWAY, in 2021, displaying his kaleidoscopic brushstrokes as a stand-alone artist. “I definitely see color when I’m making songs or listening to other people’s music,” he revealed at the time of its release.

Singles ‘BILL$’, ‘FRAUD’ which featured a guest vocal from Ambré, and ‘IN THE AIR’ made waves, the latter of which has racked up over 32 million streams on Spotify since. Kehlani and Syd brought Destin along as main support for their respective tours that year, with Conrad venturing out on his own UK/European tour, selling out three consecutive shows in London in the process.

Inspired by “powerhouse vocalists” from the golden era of “R&B realness” which was the nineties, Conrad admitted that Brian Mcknight, Michael Jackson and “my vocal Bible” in Brandy majorly influenced his 2022 sophomore release, SATIN. ‘ON 10’ and ‘DOWN BAD’ indicated a maturing talent, unfurling themes like trust, toxic relationships, sex, and desire.

Destin Conrad’s ambitious two-parter, SUBMISSIVE and SUBMISSIVE2 came in late 2023 and early 2024 respectively, to coincide with an expansive global tour which saw the promising artist perform across the US and beyond.

Spring 2025 saw the release of LOVE ON DIGITAL, Conrad's fifth studio album, which featured the tracks 'THE LAST TIME', 'KISSING IN PUBLIC' and 'DELUSIONAL'.
