Liverpool originals China Crisis have always made music that’s far easier to love than to define. For more than four decades now Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon, collectively better known as China Crisis, have been writing and performing some of the most distinctive, catchy and sophisticated pop songs out there, from “Wishful Thinking”, “Black Man Ray”, and “King in a Catholic Style” to “Christian”, “Arizona Sky” and “Down Here on Earth”. 

The band originally emerged in 1981 from their native Kirkby as the songwriting duo of vocalist/keyboardist Daly and guitarist/vocalist Lundon, who have been working together ever since. Citing influences as varied as Brian Eno, Davie Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Eric Satie and Talking Heads, it’s not surprising that their sound was quickly distinguishable amongst their peers, combining synthpop with reggae, country and other styles with their own unique melodies and harmonies to create distinctively sophisticated but catchy pop in a style all its own.

Their 2024 release 'China Greatness' (featuring elevated, cinematic new arrangements of the songwriters’ own favourite tracks from across their catalogue, and mixed by multiple-Grammy award winner Mark Phythian) peaked in the album charts at record-setting levels for the band, and their recent tours around the globe have served to both build the loyalty of existing fans and entice new legions ardent new followers in the process.

Truly beloved for their live performances which combine their engaging music with a healthy dose of Scouse humor, and with the clear kinship the band have with their fans, audiences always leave China Crisis shows the all the happier for having been part of the moment.

    Great band as good if not better as they mature. I've been a fan since they more or less started. Gary and Eddie still going strong and very humorous. Enjoyed everything about the night. Great venue too ( Queens hall Edinburgh. Staff great and very helpful. And excellent value for money. Best night out for a long time. Keep it up China crisis. James McDonald

  • Two fantastic nights.

    I saw them at The Stables Milton Keynes on Thursday 1st May and at The Apex Bury St Edmunds Saturday 3rd. The first with my wife and second with my 10 year old son,and we were both lucky enough to catch Eddie and Eric before the show started and had our photos taken with them such nice and friendly people, willing to have their photos taken with anyone who asked. I never get tired of going to see the magnificent China Crisis live. The songs transport you back but with Gary's stories brings everything into one wonderful experience. Tears of laughter all through both nights and Eddie almost as a side kick for the gags makes it even more a memorable time,all clearly having fun on stage. If you've never seen these live,you're missing something I can't recommend this highly enough 10 out of 10. Can't wait till the next time.

    china crisis put on a fabulous show at the acapela studios pentyrch nr cardiff if you get a chance to see them don't miss it they gave everything in a fun show including lots hits and ald and new favourites, one of the few bands that sound as good live as they do on record
