About
Texan alt rockers distinguished by melodic violin work and earnest songwriting
Post-grunge rock outfit Blue October were formed in Houston, Texas in 1995 by brother Justin and Jeremy Furstenfeld along with violinist Ryan Delahoussaye and bassist Liz Mullaly.
Following the successful independent release of their debut The Answers, the quartet signed to Universal – albeit without Mullaly who had been replaced by Matt Novesky – and delivered their acclaimed sophomore album Consent To Treatment, which earned the band comparisons to fellow AOR alt rock bands, such as Third Eye Blind, Live and the Verve Pipe.
C.B Hudson joined the band on guitar and vocals and Blue October's popularity got a boost when Calling You, taken from their 2003 album History For Sale, was included on the American Wedding soundtrack. Foiled reinforced this with a couple of high-charting singles, backed with a tour opening for Yellowcard.
Blue October continued to release studio albums at a decent clip through the '10s, interspersed with live albums, two of which were recorded in their native Texas, and a 2019 full-throttle double live album recorded in Manchester while touring their 2018 album I Hope You're Happy.
The band released their 10th studio album, This Is What I Live For, as well as a documentary detailing their struggles and successes in 2020. They followed both with the announcement of four Blue October UK tour dates in March 2022.
2026 saw the band return to the UK with the 20th anniversary tour for lauded 2006 album Foiled, stopping by Nottingham, Glasgow and Manchester before completing the run of dates with a show at London's iconic Roundhouse.
