About

Recreating the sound, look, presence and magic of a real 1960's Doors concert, perfectly and effortlessly transporting the audience back in time with classic hits such as ‘Light My Fire’, ‘When The Music's Over’, ‘Riders On The Storm’, ‘The End’ and many more.

The Doors Alive formed in 2005. Since then there have been a few changes, but the current line up is the best it has ever been. Frontman Mike Griffioen captures the look, attitude and rich baritone voice of the late great Jim Morrison with ease while his compadres Barrington Meyer on guitar, Buzz Allan on drums and Norbert Varga on keyboards showcase the musical chops of original Doors members Robby Krieger, John Densmore and Ray Manzarek with finesse and authenticity. They take pride in using the exact same vintage equipment to achieve an authentic sound, including Rhodes Piano Bass, Gibson G101 organ, Gibson SG and Ludwig Mod Orange drum kit. They are keen on making every single show unique by authentic improvisations and changing the set regularly so you will never see the same show twice!

The Doors Alive have left awestruck audiences in several countries around the world, including the UK, Ireland, Australia, Denmark, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia, Malta, Greece, Turkey, Lebanon, UAE and Chile to name but a few. They repeatedly sell out some of the most well established venues in Europe. They have played at the legendary Isle of Wight Festival and played on the same bill with such legendary musicians as Status Quo, Canned Heat, Nazareth, Uriah Heep, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Eric Burdon and Kris Kristofferson. In Chile the band played an arena show to 4,500 Doors fans! In several countries including France and Lebanon the band have been featured on national television.

  • A great night for The Doors

by Lou Lou on 18/01/2025Rating: 5 out of 5

Seen a few Doors tributes over the years, and saw them in Newcastle last night. I think Mike (Jim) is the best match vocally and visually so far that ive seen. loved the fact he did a bit of an audience mooch and they played most of my favourites including Crystal ship an The End.... which was great as none ive seen do these two before..."Jim"did a good impression of being Jim although i thought his audience mooch was a bit long and i really wanted to hear him sing more songs and fit in more singing rather than poetry and i laughed at a couple of his Jim rants and outbursts shrieking it was quite authentic although my non doors fan companion was puzzled I actually loved that ha. Overall a great night and I'd see them again the musicians were talented and sounded authentic too the best ive seen ;)

  • Doors Alive ... finally

A slow start but once they kicked in it was brilliant. Pretend Jim should sing more though and not let the audience finish the songs.

  • Strange Days indeed

Not sure how I felt at the end of that , disappointed but happy at the same time , l'd heard and read a lot about the doors alive , amazing , breathtaking , like watching the real thing , no1 tribute band to the doors in the world so I was full of anticipation and excitement seeing them for the first time , the band was supported by an echo and the bunny men tribute who opened the show at approx 7:50pm as not familiar with there music I just applauded the band for there efforts whilst thought a strange act to open the show . The doors alive took to the stage at approx 9:10pm , The set list was mixed , they played through the classics 'The crystal ship' 'back door man' 'Touch me' 'Soul Kitchen' then took me far out with the rare sounds of 'Love Street' and 'Hyacinth House' 'Peace frog' and 'Queen of the highway' 'Moonlight Drive' a great rendition of 'People are strange' and Fine work on 'Spanish Caravan' an 11 minute 'Light my fire' was awesome to watch the Interaction between guitarist and keyboards although 'Jim' took a backseat in this one and let the other band members shine in there solo efforts , 'LA woman' and 'Riders on a storm' where added closed by 'Roadhouse Blues' the show finished at 10:50pm Like I said this was my first time seeing The Doors alive And I believe they change the setlist most shows but to leave out classic songs like 'Break on through' 'The End' 'When the music's over' 'Waiting for the sun' 'Strange days' 'Alabama Song' 'love me two times' 'The unknown solider' and my favourite 'five to one' was disappointing but understood in a 1 hour 40 setlist they can't play everything but surely these are the songs the Doors were renowned for and what people pay to hear Mike Griffioen Pulls off a very good 'Jim Morrison' as do the rest of the band the sound is very good and they are a very good unit , my only criticism of Mike is he tries to be the Oliver Stone version of Jim rather than the characteristic of the original , there was a lot of quotes from the movie which made me laugh it's entertainment after all and Mike decided to wear the famous Jim Morrison cowboy hat for 80% of the gig but during this show I felt like an extra in the movie rather than being at a 1960's doors gig Enclosing would I see these guys again ? answer is yes , like my opening line disappointed but happy.
