Book of Mormon London – The Story
The Book of Mormon is a fun musical comedy which follows the story of Elder Price and Elder Cunningham, two Mormon Missionaries. The London theatre show follows the two men as they work to spread the word of the church of the Latter-Day Saints, from which they have just graduated. Based in a small town in Uganda, Price and Cunningham embark on a mission to convert the locals with disastrous results. The two quickly realise their mission may not be as straightforward as they hoped. The Ugandan locals are much more concerned with pressing issues such as the AIDS epidemic, famine and local warlords rather than their religious message. The comedic musical follows the two as they navigate this new landscape and try and deliver their message despite disaster.
Book of Mormon Theatre History
The Book of Mormon first opened on Broadway in 2011 before it made its London debut in 2013. The Book of Mormon has a book, music and lyrics by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of South Park. Robert Lopez, behind hit musical Avenue Q, was also involved in the theatre show’s production. Lopez noticed both Parker and Stone in the audience at an Avenue Q performance in 2003. The three met after the show and came up with the idea of writing a comedy based on the founder of the Church of Latter-Day Saints, Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon was born and officially opened in London theatres ten years later in 2013, having first come to Broadway in 2011.
Book of Mormon Musical Songs
The musical has a stellar soundtrack of hilarious and high energy songs. Some of the songs featured in the West End show include “Hello”, “All American Prophet”, “I Believe”, “I am Africa”, and “Tomorrow is a Latter Day”. “Baptize Me”, “Man Up” and “Spooky Mormon Hell Dream” also feature in the side-splitting theatre show.
