About
Playboi Carti announces the Antagonist tour
Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti has announced Manchester and London dates for November 2023 as part of his Antagonist European tour.
From cult hero to big league name, Playboi Carti is a dynamic and different voice in contemporary rap. Born Jordan Terrell Carter in Riverdale, Georgia, as a teenager the rapper began to take his craft seriously after dropping out of his basketball team and friends encouraged him to take his freestyle talents seriously. Initially releasing music in the early 2010s as Sir Cartier, Carter soon began to draw attention online with his EP Young Misfits, which had a hazy and heady vibe and showcased the young rapper's characteristically youthful voice.
In 2013 he changed his name to Playboi Carti and soon enough moved to New York to find his break, which would come after meeting A$AP Rocky, who became something of a mentor. Tracks 'Broke Boi' and 'Fetti' became SoundCloud sensations, earning him support slots with the likes of Lil Uzi Vert and ASAP Ferg. In April 2017 Carter released his debut Playboi Carti mixtape, which immediately blew up with hits including 'Magnolia', 'wokeuplikethis*' and 'Location'. The release earnt him huge media attention and further features with the likes of ASAP Mob, with all signs leading to a debut album a year later.
Die Lit was released in early 2018, which with it's trap party anthems soared to No.3 on the Billboard 200 and was given Best New Music by Pitchfork. Carter invited rappers such as Lil Uzi Vert, Nicki Minaj and London grime artist Skepta to feature on the album.
Carter's second studio album Whole Lotta Red built even stronger on Die Lit's success, topping the Billboard 200 immediately upon its release in December 2020. With contributions from Kanye West, Future and Kid Cudi, the album is a testament to the excitement that was building around Carter as he continued to play with his vocals and rapping styles.
After fans in London spotted billboards mysteriously advertising Antagonist with the rapper's name alongside fellow Opium labelmates Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely and Homixide Gange, in July 2023 Playboi Carti confirmed that the tour will visit the Manchester AO Arena on 21 November and The O2 London on 22 November.
