About
The rising South London pop-soul storyteller
Persia Holder has a knack for channeling her infinitely relatable inner turmoil into lyrical catharsis, crafting poignant ballads of heartbreak and healing inspired by early-2000s icons like Alicia Keys.
Using songwriting as a form of therapy and her voice “like a protective mechanism” (as she confided in us during this interview(Opens in new tab)), Persia Holder has been steadily building an audience since her 2024 breakout single ‘Baggage’. Born in London to Iranian-Scottish heritage, Holder began singing and playing piano at eleven, inspired by her mother’s love of Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye. After sharing soulful covers on TikTok, she captured attention for her crystalline vocals and expressive piano work, shifting effortlessly from warm, understated arrangements to confessional, melancholic refrains.
A self-confessed overthinker, raw emotion is the thread that runs through her albeit modest back-catalogue of releases. “When I was a kid, anytime I felt overwhelmed or upset, my mum would find me at the piano” she told HUNGER(Opens in new tab), “it’s probably why I’m drawn to writing and performing songs that hold depth and lived experience”. It’s a sentiment that defines her debut EP I Didn’t Think You’d Hear This (2025), with its soaring choruses and knife-to-the-heart lyrics detailing broken promises. Tracks like ‘Baggage’, ‘Echo’, and ‘Now or Never’, each explore loneliness, vulnerability and the ache that comes with navigating your twenties. “These songs were things I didn’t think I’d ever share,” she admits to HUNGER, “but that’s the point — they’re the truest parts of me”.
Her live shows bring that same emotional honesty into vivid focus. Last December, she performed to over 5,000 people at the Royal Albert Hall supporting Jamie Cullum, a momentous show which marked her first time performing with a band, allowing her to focus solely on her vocals. “It was one of those moments where you think, this is why you do this,” she later reflected in her Ticketmaster interview. Since then, festival slots across Europe have beckoned, as well as The Great Escape in Brighton, for which BBC Introducing have invited Holder to play its FIRST FIFTY preview show. Now, with the heft of a full band behind her, Persia Holder’s hotly-anticipated first headline tour is on the horizon.
