About
French/Haitian/Floridian multilingual pop star
As a self-described “citizen of the world”, Naïka’s claim is as authentic as they come. Born in Miami, Florida to parents of French and Haitian origin, the sultry singer-songwriter identifies as a TCK (or ‘third culture kid’) having grown up in the influence of European, African and Caribbean communities since birth as well as the culture’s of both her mother and father. This melting pot of influences has of course come to define her life, but also her distinctively global brand of pop music.
Naïka’s introduction to music of varying roots was at a very early age. Her musically inclined father - who himself stills performs to this day - can be accredited as her entry point, often performing songs from his upbringing for her on his acoustic guitar. The Miami singer has posted a handful of intimate home videos on her social media channels which document these impromptu events, as they have undoubtedly shaped her artistic perspective and creative outlook.
After completing her high school studies Naïka then chose to take music as a career seriously, moving to Boston, Texas to study at Berklee College of Music. Within a year her distinct talent was already being noticed, when she earned second place in the BMI John Lennon Foundation Scholarship in 2015 which gave her the launchpad to write and produce her music without compromising her creative boundaries.
Speaking a total of three languages (English, French, and Creole) informs Naïka’s approach to writing, and she remains faithful to her colourful heritage and her family. The singer chose to promote her early output via her YouTube channel, which has since amassed more than 180,000 followers. Her initial uploaded videos of cover versions failed to make any significant impact, but that all changed with the release of her cover of the classic Haitian song ‘Papa Gédé (Bel Gason)’ which gave Naïka her first taste of viral recognition. An appearance on NBC’s talent show The Voice and a support slot with Grammy Award-winning crooner Michael Bolton would also cement her reputation as a rising talent.
The intrigue in the Miami singer’s unique take on Western pop music and global rhythms was evident, so a relocation to Los Angeles came naturally - having lived in Africa, the South Pacific, Europe and the Caribbean before the age of 16, it was just another opportunity to absorb new influences. Lauded English-speaking singles ‘Ride’, ‘Oh Mama’, and ‘Deja Vu’ were then released, which led on to her debut EP Lost In Paradise, pt.1 in 2020, a collection of tracks that detailed Naïka’s personal journey through self-discovery and inner growth that extended into Lost In Paradise, pt.2 the following year.
A watershed moment in the singer’s career however was when Apple picked up her single Sauce' for their iPhone 12 advert in 2020, which swelled in popularity to the point that Naïka shot an accompanying music video for the song in April 2021 to the delight of her growing fanbase. 2022 saw the release of empowered world-pop tracks like ‘My Body, My Choice’, ‘H20’, and ‘Guava’ in a breakthrough year for the star who takes her globally inspired sound to a global audience with a show at London’s Courtyard Theatre and more.
