About

The Bristol post-punks announce two homecoming shows for August 2025

Formed in Bristol in 2009, IDLES are known for their intense sound and abrasive lyrics.

The post-punk rocker's confrontational and infectiously volatile debut was Brutalism in 2017. Joy As An Act Of Resistance came out in 2018, acting as something of a manifesto for the band, as well as their attempt to be vulnerable and encourage vulnerability.

IDLES third album, Ultra Mono, came out in September 2020. Recorded in Paris, Ultra Mono was constructed to capture the feeling of a hip-hop record. Across all 12 tracks, the band continued their blunt social commentary, with themes of inclusivity, gender inequality, nationalism, community, toxic masculinity and more.

Ultra Mono also features guest vocals from Jehnny Beth (Savages), as well as contributions from Warren Ellis (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), David Yow and Jamie Cullum. Ahead of its release, IDLES did a series of three live-streamed performances from Abbey Road in August 2020.

In 2021 IDLES released their fourth studio album CRAWLER, which Pitchfork argued "plays like the dark origin story for how Idles became the preeminent life coaches of modern post-punk." It featured the hits The Beachland Ballroom and Crawl!

In 2023 the band released the single 'Dancer', featuring LCD Soundsystem. The single will feature on the band's fifth album TANKG, set for release 16 February 2024. That summer sees the band perform at a number of outdoor shows include The Piece Hall, Cardiff Castle and Margate Summer Series, before heading on a headline tour 21 Nov – 7 Dec 2024.

In November 2024, IDLES announced two back-to-back nights in August 2025 in the intimate but majestic Queen Square in Bristol. The shows are billed as their homecoming Bristol Block Party, with special guests including Julian Casablancas' The Voidz, Soft Play, Lambrini Girls, Hinds, Scaler, and more.

  • Amazing band but venue rules need attention

by AndyJ on 04/12/2024O2 Academy Birmingham - BirminghamRating: 5 out of 5

Having seen Idles before I've been looking forward to this tour for a long time. They didn't disappoint. 2 hours of intense power and top songs that put them at the top of current live bands. They've become a much tighter unit over the recent months and they're going to surely be headlining the bigger festivals very soon. I don't think we'll be seeing them in these size venues again. Older anthems mixed perfectly with the latest TANGK songs. Simply stunning. I'm usually a fan of the O2 academy in Birmingham and this time I felt frustrated by a ridiculous rule on the balcony. The bars and merch stands were great, easy to get served etc. The frustrating thing was that you weren't allowed to stand up, showsec staff were instantly at you and there was no allowance even when we were on the back row of the seats with no one behind us we weren't allowed to stand up. Do you know how hard it is to remain seated at at an Idles gig? Truly pathetic.

  • Awesome gig

Quite possibly one of the best live bands on the planet. Awesome gig.

  • Awesome Idles @ Ally Pally

I should know better at my age, but an Idles experience just picks you up and throws you straight back to the day you fell in love with live music 🎵.

  • Beg, steal or buy a ticket!

Best band in the U.K.at the moment, 2 hours of pure energy

  • Immense!

by Weirdlittledumpling on 26/11/2024Rating: 5 out of 5

Rock city in Nottingham never changes and we like it that way! I'm in my 30s now and it's been a choice venue since my teens, it never disappoints and always provides a great atmosphere in comparison to a soulless arena or academy. The band... man the band were incredible. The vibe and energy was infectious and the overall performance was flawless! Probably one of the best gigs and performances I've ever seen. I didn't get amongst it in the crowd because I'm a huge wuss and would probably die but I enjoyed watching everyone else go for it from my perch on the balcony. The BFS mate was in there and left minus a shoe amongst other items of clothing. Hilarious and apparently well worth the loss! Don't contemplate. Buy a ticket!

  • Best ever

by Richard T on 26/11/2024O2 City Hall Newcastle - Newcastle Upon TyneRating: 5 out of 5

I've attended (far too) many concerts over the years, and have always found it difficult, if not impossible, to answer the question - "What is the best gig you've ever been to?"Not any more. This was superb. Great sound, great energy, brilliant staging.

  • Great gig - selfish fans

by Grumpy old man on 25/11/2024O2 City Hall Newcastle - Newcastle Upon TyneRating: 3 out of 5

What a brilliant gig , idles were fantastic. Downside is selfish fans in seats standing up for most of the gig - can't see through them, can't see round them. There were standing tickets available too!!!

It was class. I got so close to Lee Keirnan I could see the sweat droplets fall from his chimney chin chin

  • Band were amazing! Venue lacked any character or charm!

    by Mr.Motivator on 24/11/2024OVO Hydro - GlasgowRating: 2 out of 5

From the start the venue let themselves down. The security at the OVO entrance were intent on sending us away before even checking that we had the correct ticket for that door (Which we did) the lady putting on our wristbands was pretty friendly and wished us a great evening which was nice. The lounge that we paid £30 extra each for was pretty lacklustre. The bar staff were glum and disinterested. £15 for 2 drinks is pricey even for a concert. The food was pretty shocking. 5 cold chicken goujons advertised as a chicken box on a cardboard tray with a splodge of sauce and a slither of slaw was pretty disappointing. The pizza was decent although it was hard to find any chicken on it. All in all the venue was basically just after your money and had no interest in giving you a great experience. £6 to put 2 jackets in the cloak room is a rip off as well. Thankfully the band delivered and put on an amazing show! Idles were absolutely fantastic. The hydro was pretty dismal.

Well organised entry system. Plenty of room inside. Lovely beer on tap. And to round it off a cracking performance by @idlesband. Couldn't fault it and will definitely go back to the Piece Hall for other gigs based on this experience.
