GoGo Penguin present APOPHENIA
Celebrated cinematic break-beat trio GoGo Penguin present APOPHENIA, a feature-length live audio-visual experience created in collaboration with TENENTNET a cognitive design studio in London.
Formed in 2012 by pianist Chris Illingworth, drummer Rob Turner and bassist Nick Blacka, GoGo Penguin's debut Fanfares placed the trio vibrantly within a Venn diagram of jazz, neo-classical and electronica, whilst clearly appealing to fans of post-rock and many more musical spheres.
2014's v2.0 shot the Manchester group further into public consciousness and earned them a Mercury Prize nomination. The album featured tracks such as the moody trip-hop slow burner 'Murmuration' and the twinkling 'Hopopono', which quickly became a long-standing favourite among fans. In the years that followed GoGo Penguin experimented with and expanded on their sound through releases Man Made Object (2016) and A Humdrum Star (2018).
In 2020 the band released their self-titled fifth LP, which featured the wandering beauty of 'F Maj Pixie' and intricate 'Atomised'. Turner left shortly afterwards and Jon Scott joined on drums, with Joe Reiser continuing to collaborate on sound production. In 2022 the trio released their EP Between Two Waves, which featured icy and cinematic production and was characteristically atmospheric.
In 2024 the band announced a new live audio-visual experience APOPHENIA, created in collaboration with London-based design studio TENENTNET. Apophenia promises to be "an exhilarating journey into your own psychological hardware, exploring the subjective relationships between aural and visual perception."
