UK pop insitution behind Karma Chamaleon and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me
Singer-songwriter Boy George joined bassist Mikey Craig and drummer Jon Moss to form a band called In Praise Of Lemmings in 1981. Within a year, they had changed their name to Culture Club, added Roy Hay on guitar and keyboards, and released three singles including the reggae-influenced Do You Really Want To Hurt Me. It went straight to No.1 on charts all over the world, quickly putting them on course to become one of the biggest bands of the ’80s.
At the end of 1982, Culture Club released their first full-length album Kissing To Be Clever, which featured those singles along with the huge hits Time (Clock Of The Heart) and I’ll Tumble 4 Ya.
Three more albums followed – 1983’s Colour By Numbers, 1984’s Waking Up With The House On Fire and 1986’s From Luxury To Heartache – before the new wave band’s dissolution in late 1986. They contained numerous chart-toppers including Karma Chameleon, Church Of The Poison Mind, Victims, The War Song and It’s A Miracle.
To date, Culture Club have sold more than 150 million records worldwide. As the first multi-racial band with an openly gay frontman known for his glamorous androgynous style, they broke stereotypes and challenged norms while establishing themselves as icons of British musical history and popular culture. Culture Club also won numerous awards including three BRITs for Best British Breakthrough Act, Best British Group and Best British Single (for Karma Chameleon), one Grammy for Best New Artist and two Ivor Novello Awards for Best Pop Song and Best Selling A-Side (both also for Karma Chameleon). Their song Time (Clock Of The Heart) was named No.107 on the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame’s list of 500 Songs That Shaped Rock And Roll.
Culture Club have reunited for several performances and projects since splitting up. After about 12 years, they got back together and released the 1999 album Don’t Mind If I Do before calling it quits again in 2002. They also returned in 2018 with their sixth studio album Life – containing their first original material in nearly 20 years – and went out on a huge tour to support it.
Culture Club performed a special livestream from The SSE Arena, Wembley in London called Rainbow In The Dark in December 2020.
In 2024, Culture Club announced a tour performing Kissing To Be Clever and Colour By Numbers in full and in order, with support from Tony Hadley and Heaven 17.

Amazing show... Boy George voice is superb.. the best showman. You could clearly see they are enjoying the tour. 5 Stars 🌟
Just fabulous!!!! Boy George was amazing and so entertaining too, loved him talking about his life so far and show graphics were brilliant 👏
Had a great night, Heaven 17, Tony Hadley and Culture Club were all amazing bought back so many memories of the 80's music
The 3 acts were fantastic belting out all of the classics songs and were all on great form We sat at the back block 9 row u The only criticism really was the fact that there were no speakers at the rear of the venue having to rely on the front stage speakers output Whilst the sound was great we just felt a little underwhelmed with the outright power that was needed for the venue especially for us at the back Traffic flow was slow getting out the car parks of which was fully understandable I suppose although we saw no black taxis anywhere
Glad to see culture club back. Concert was fantastic.
Parking was very unorganized.. if possible travel via railway
Absolutely loved this gig. The support from Tony Hadley started the night off to a great start with the old greats and perfect warm up. Boy George took us on a trip down memory lane with all the old greats, and sharing the reasons and thoughts for his song writing! Absolutely smashed it out the park. Great set but fabulous performance and his voice seems to get more beautiful as time passes!! George you were amazing!!
Non drop entertainment from start to Finnish boy gearge was fenominal
Such an amazing night! Transported us back in time. Pitch perfect, super gorgeous Boy George thumping out hit after hit! Great set and narrative and so good to see some original band members and new supporting talent too. Tony Hadley was also really good!! More classic hits to get everyone in the mindset! Sadly missed Heaven 17 due to roadworks which was annoying.
I have to say we were a little disappointed with the main show the supporting acts totally captured the audience but when culture club came on a lot of the music played was not as well known and the atmosphere was just not there we felt that the audience were losing interest and a lot of people around us were leaving quite a while before the end Saying that the musicians performance was really good and in some cases drowned out Boy George It was only when the more known tracks were performed that the audience picked up Disappointed is the only way to sum It up
Concert was great Heaven 17,Tony Hadley where the best support acts both still sound as good as they did back in the good old 80's 😍 Culture Club where great they put on a good show Boy George still got it🎶
Fantastic concert from start to finish. Brought back so many happy memories. Heaven 17 got the night started, Tony Hadley, what a voice and great to hear all the Spandau tunes and Culture Club and the one and only Boy George absolutely out of this world. Great to hear all the hits and what an entertainer, show never to be forgotten.
Every act was fabulous took us right back to our youth and the fabulous 80's!!
Three bands were excellent great sound and lighting plenty staff to keep everyone right realy good night 😀🕺
Great night with Heaven 17, Tony Hadley and of course, Culture Club. CC - super stage set up too. Some of the songs maybe not as well known in the early part of their set but CC more than made up for it as the evening progressed. Overall - entertainment at its best and judging by the singing on the way out, the crowd enjoyed it too.
The two support acts were great and Culture Club were amazing
First 5/6 songs none of the audience seemed to know. No interaction with the audience and Boy George came across as being very arrogant. Left before the end as did many others. Heaven 17 and Tony Hadley were great and the only highlights of the night.
Boy George was lovely. Decent human being telling stories between great songs performed with none of the usual self indulgent long drawn out endings. Staging was terrific. Lighting not so much. Too much from the top. And the video coverage was shockingly bad. No effort gone into planning. Rubbish direction and cameras. Shame when so much had gone into the great performance and staging.
Culture club where amazing boy George still has that beautiful voice, the atmosphere was top notch, love ,love, love .
Fantastic gig, George told a story of his life for introducing each song. Costumes were amazing. As were the sets/backdrop. Band members Roy & Mikey also looked to be really enjoying themselves. George's voice is just beautiful. Backing singers were also amazing, with very powerful voices. Woukd have been nice to being PK on atage, ijust managed to see the top of his head scoot along the font of stage... Thank you!
