About
See The Tykes in action
Barnsley Football Club competes in EFL League One; the third tier for its men’s team and the fifth tier for its women’s side. The men are also in for the the FA Cup, EFL Trophy, and League Cup for the 2023/24 season.
Based in South Yorkshire, the Club was formed in 1887 by Reverend Tiverton Preedy, and since then have played their home games at Oakwell. Last season the men's team went close to promotion back to the Championship, but were denied at Wembley in the Play-Off Final by their local rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
The Reds won the FA Cup in 1912 and are a former Premier League club. Their highly-regarded youth setup at Oakwell has produced some of the game’s best players, both historically with the likes of Tommy Taylor and in the modern era also with another homegrown talent in Manchester City's John Stones. The Under-18s in the Barnsley FC Academy were last season crowned national champions, as the next precious gems are mined from a community where the town and football club are one and the same.
Built on glass and coal, Barnsley is a town with a rich industrial heritage that is shining brighter than ever and is a real hotspot in the beautiful county of Yorkshire.
