About
Punchy, atmospheric pop-rock
Describing themselves as "Dark, sexy and sick," Balancing Act formed in late 2021 when Kai Roberts (vocals) and Jackson Couzens (guitar) left their previous projects in Manchester for the capital, where they met drummer Patrick Hanbury and bassist David Carpenter. Their debut single 'Cold' was a slice of shimmering alt. rock driven by a breakbeat that gave the song a kind of Madchester swag. Cutting guitar tones and big, crashing atmospheric moments pulled them back to the modern day, though, and 2022 saw a string of more singles that culminated in their debut EP Malice In Tone.
Produced by London duo Sunglasses For Jaws, the Malice In Tone was richly orchestrated to bolster its moody atmospherics, particularly on the breakout hit 'A Little More Time'.
2023 saw the band enjoy more nationwide attention, featuring on Radio 1's Future Artists and Indie Show playlists, as they toured throughout the UK performing in London, Manchester, Bristol and beyond.
In 2024 Balancing Act released 'She Plays The Theremin', a delightfully serrated indie-rock tune reminiscent of old Kings of Leon, which Steve Lamacq featured on the 6 Music Indie Forever show.
