About

Big dreaming folk-pop star-in-the-making

Áine Deane wasn’t raised in a musical family, but despite her parents’ generous support it was her schoolgirl obsession with her favourite boyband, One Direction, that subconsciously inspired her to pursue a career in music. Now she’s charting her own course to pop superstardom.

Given her rapid ascent via TikTok notoriety, it was seemingly destiny that lured Deane towards writing music. Her lengthening list of famous admirers in the shape of Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, Sam Smith, and Hozier would certainly agree.

The London-based singer-songwriter was encouraged to take up a handful of musical disciplines when she was still in school, her parents gently ushering her towards learning the flute and the piano since they’d missed the opportunity to themselves. Though, it was an encounter whilst watching the X-Factor that sparked her first fixation with music, going weak at the knees after seeing One Direction strut their stuff on stage. “I saw them on TV when they were at X-Factor, I was there from the beginning!” she recently reminisced. “I saw them live once when I was twelve, I remember it so well. I queued at the venue with my friends, we all made signs,” emphasising her devotion, and one that would begin to shape her own musical beginnings.

Penning songs about heartbreak she hadn’t yet experienced at the age of twelve, it wasn’t until she enrolled to study English Literature and Drama that Deane started to showcase her talents on social media. Throughout the pandemic when eyeballs were firmly attached to sustenance-giving screens, her TikTok following rocketed. Striking whilst the iron was hot, she self-released her sparkling debut single ‘Hopeless’ in September of 2021, garnering immediate (and lofty) comparisons to the likes of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran, two artists she moulded her own songwriting on.

Several sumptuous singles soon followed such as ‘Did You Ever?’ and the lauded ‘Handmedowns’ in 2022, the latter of which was selected as BBC Radio 1’s introducing track of the week. It was the first of many early milestones she achieved as her TikTok following swelled to 300,000. Ironically, for an artist whose music has resonated via social media, it’s Deane’s live performances that have proved to be a vital element to her success.

Plying her trade in the live music realm, Deane played London four times within the space of twelve months – at The Lower Third which sold out instantly, the Camden Assembly, the Electric Ballroom, and the Royal Albert Hall having been hand-picked to support Sam Smith. A stint on the festival circuit followed suit – performing at Boardmasters, All Points East, and The Great Escape alongside Maisie Peters’ spotlight show – as did her sophomore EP, Nothing Left To Say that marked a maturing person behind the performer.

2024 proved to be a landmark year for Áine Deane with a pinch-me-moment performing on the Strummerville Stage at Glastonbury Festival, pulling out two impressively ballsy covers of Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story’ and Noah Kahan’s ‘Stick Season’. Behind the scenes she etched away at her third EP, TALES OF A TWENTY SOMETHING, led by the bewitching single of the same name as Deane continued an inward-looking personal journey, baring all at gigs throughout the Autumn at King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, The Deaf Institute in Manchester, and London’s Scala.
