About

Celebrating the best of Genesis and solo gems

Steve Hackett is a guitarist, producer and songwriter best known for his commanding role in the prog rock band Genesis throughout the 70s.

Hackett left Genesis in 1977 to pursue a solo career, as well as forming the supergroup GTR with Yes guitarist Steve Howe. His own work has been prolific, as he continues to write and release albums at a steady pace. Some of his most popular albums include Spectral Mornings (1978), Voyage of the Acolyte (1975) and Defector (1980).

At the end of 2025, Hackett announced The Best of Genesis & Solo Gems UK tour, with 17 dates finishing up the Royal Albert Hall. The tour will also introduce two new members to the band: Swedish keyboard wizard Lalle Larsson, who replaces longtime associate Roger King, along with Felix Lehrmann, the German drummer taking over from Craig Blundell.

  • Another Great Night

    by Psy on 15/10/2024Victoria Hall - Stoke-On-TrentRating: 5 out of 5

It would be easy to be cynical about Steve Hackett's plundering of the Genesis back catalogue, but he's got much more right to do so than most, and restricts himself to the albums that he was involved with, and he always changes his setlists around to keep it interesting. This time's selections were almost entirely from The Lamb... and Selling England... and what incredible versions they were too. The musicians that Steve has surrounded himself with are exceptional, and the vocals, both lead and harmony, are peerless. And that's without mentioning Steve's solo work, which makes up the first part of the show. With his latest album, The Circus & The Night Whale, he's reached yet another peak, and while there was only space for 3 tracks from that album, again, his classic tracks and a few more obscure tracks were fantastic to hear. The petition starts here for Steve to play Defector in full on the next round. The show ran to over 2 and half hours (excluding interval), so no quibbles about value for money either. All in all a fantastic show, and if there's anyone who's been on the fence about going to see Steve live, I wholeheartedly say "go, you won't regret it".

  • Musicianship at its best

    by Chris B on 14/10/2024Victoria Hall - Stoke-On-TrentRating: 5 out of 5

Had a great evening at the Stoke on Trent Steve Hackett concert last night. Had a good seat in the Circle. Concert was in two halves. First half was made up of Steve's solo work and set the scene for the second half which was highlights from "Lamb". Both halves were excellent with superb musicianship on show. Steve's guitar playing was phenomenal and looked effortless. Sign of a true genius. Steve has surrounded himself with first class musicians and help cement the evening's music to be special and one to be remembered for a long time.

  • Steve Hackett and band shine

    by Kev56 on 12/10/2024St David's Hall - CardiffRating: 5 out of 5

Shame this was not able to happen in St David's Hall, but none the less, as always magnificent sound and light show, the musicianship from all is par excellence, love the 9 song Lamb tracks especially, a great show, even more so as we had first row seats 🎵

  • Hackett Lamb highlights

    by Chris B on 06/10/2024Bristol Beacon - BristolRating: 4 out of 5

On the bus back from a sold out Bristol Beacon after my first gig in three months - veteran former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett on his recent tour with the rather unwieldy tile of 'Genesis greats, Lamb highlights and solo'. This was an accurate summary of the musical content but, like the music, short and snappy it most certainly isn't. It has been pointed out to me that I have seen Hackett an inordinate number of times - ten in total and eight in the last 11 years since he's been performing with his 'Genesis revisited' band, to the initial chagrin of certain former Genesis members. As a result my expectations were relatively low and 'could this be the last one' was certainly an idea under consideration. Due to recently watching 'the musical box' tribute band and the last Hackett gig at Bath Forum being a bit so so, tonight's performance turned out to be a revelation, in part due to the scope of the Beacon stage and sound and definitely due to the choices of Genesis material. The band members need to have 'chops of steel' to memorise the early 70s Genesis material (not to mention the occasionally over virtuosic Hackett solo stuff in the first half). Granted, for a man of 73 his dark mullet does seem a tad preposterous but his self deprecating gentle manner coupled with undiminished guitar ability guarantees a more than satisfied audience - basically a secret society of people over 65! Having got into Genesis in the 80s I found these 'prog' songs mysterious and (slightly) magical when I was younger and my appreciation has only increased down the years. To see some of your favourite all time tracks performed well remains a thrill, especially on the doorstep. Bring on the 'trick of the tail' tour on its 50th anniversary in two years' time…..

  • Exceptional

I've seen Steve Hackett's band several times now, playing some of his solo body of work and various early Genesis catalogues. This band are an exceptional group of musicians and it's always hugely enjoyable and quite an emotional experience for me. Highly recommend catching it if you can.

Great venue. Great sound. Enjoyed the whole concert, especially the second half. Wonderful to hear all the early Genesis tracks, didn't want the evening to end

This was an awesome concert. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the concert. Steve Hackett and all the artists did not fail to disappoint. Absolutely brilliant.
