About

All night long…

Lionel Richie (born 1949 in Tuskegee, Alabama) first came into prominence in the '70s as a member of the hugely successful funk and soul band The Commodores. Richie’s star shone increasingly brighter as the band moved away from their funky origins and towards soulful ballads such as Easy, Three Times A Lady and Still.

In the wake of the enormous success of his Oscar-winning 1981 duet with Diana Ross, Endless Love, Richie left the band and struck out on his own as a solo performer. His 1982 self-titled debut album was an immediate smash hit, selling over four million copies and peaking at No.3 in the US album charts.

However, even that paled in comparison to his follow-up, Can’t Slow Down. Released in 1983, it went on to sell over 10 million copies and win the 1984 Grammy for Album of the year, helped along by the timeless hit singles Hello and All Night Long (All Night). Richie rounded off an incredible year by performing at the closing ceremony for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

If 1984 saw Richie become a global superstar, 1985 was the year he cemented that position. He co-wrote the charity single We Are The World with Michael Jackson and scored another No.1 single with Say You, Say Me. He was back at the top of the charts again the following year with another smash hit Dancing On The Ceiling, taken from the album of the same name.

Richie backed away from the limelight for five years after Dancing On The Ceiling to look after his gravely ill father. He didn’t release any new music until the compilation album Back To Front in 1992, which added three new songs to a collection of Richie’s hits both as a solo artist and with The Commodores. One of the new songs, Do It To Me, topped the US R&B charts, marking Richie’s first hit in five years.

Richie returned after a four-year absence with his fourth solo album Louder Than Words in 1996 and rounded out the 20th century with his fifth Time in 1998.

The ’00s saw Richie flying high once more with Renaissance, which went platinum in the UK and started a run of five albums that all landed in the UK Top 20. In 2012, Richie had his first US No.1 album since Dancing On The Ceiling with Tuskegee, a reinterpreted collection of his hits recorded alongside a host of guest stars including Willie Nelson, Shania Twain and Darius Rucker.

Following a coveted Sunday afternoon set at Glastonbury in 2015, Richie decamped to Vegas for a residency at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino's Zappos Theater. He became a judge on American Idol in 2017 and released a live album, Hello From Vegas, in 2019.

In 2022, Richie was both inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and received the 2022 American Music Awards Icon Award, his 18th AMA award. He also received the 2022 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by the Library of Congress. He also debuted and served as producer on the documentary The Greatest Night in Pop, which premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim. The film quickly became a cultural phenomenon as the most watched music documentary of 2024 with a staggering 1.3 billion minutes viewed.

  • Great concert

by Oggy on 14/06/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Not the first time I've seen Lionel Richie and he didn't disappoint, the seats we had gave a good view. With concerts with an aging audience it is a shame sometimes that people are up on their feet with no thought of someone behind that can't get up and down easily, if you want to dance from the start get a ticket on the floor area. Beer prices were extortionate - £9 a pint (if you get a 2 pint cup you can save 20p - big deal) On the whole was a great concert and I can get up and down easily but some other people can't - think of people around you as we all get old but still like to see stars

  • Lionel

    by Lionel's no 1 fan on 13/06/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 5 out of 5

What a show and showman, fantastic...we didn't want the night to end!

  • Great but only saw an hour of the show

    by ali2505 on 13/06/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Great but only saw an hour of the show due to Lionel only coming on at 9.30pm,no explanation as at previous shows he came on at 9pm. As we were on public transport if we had not left early we would have been facing a £50 taxi fare to get back to the tram station where our car was. Spoilt the experience as we were really looking forward to it (having bought tickets in October)

  • Lionel Richie Fantastic!

by Smithy on 13/06/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 5 out of 5

Lionel Richie was absolutely amazing. A great night. Ticket master on the other hand not so great. We had our seats changed a few days before the show, I emailed to ask If they were like for like as my husband needs a asile seat due to a medical condition. I was told they were still on the aisle end,,, no they weren't. Right in the middle of a row! Fortunately the staff tried to help as best they could as apparently many people were unhappy with the change of seats. We ended up a long way from the stage which was disappointing as the original seats had a lot better view. I cannot fault the advisors who had the nightmare of a job trying to sort all the seats out which had been changed. I'm unhappy that the advisor who emailed me previously gave me incorrect information, stating my changed seat numbers were on the end of a aisle. Misinformed.

  • Fabulous Night

  • Lionel didn't Disappoint

by Lionel Richie on 13/06/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was amazing - Co-op Live. Lionel Richie was everything and more BUT Why did he have to start at 9.15pm? that's my only gripe.

  • Awesome!

A fantastic evening .Lionel was just amazing as was the band and all the staging . Staff at Co Op live very helpful beginning with the parking and then directing us to the correct entrance.Security check very quick . We had been allocated diffent seats to the ones I bought which were brilliant. Again on exit , staff very helpful.

  • ALMOST PERFECT

by MCB on 13/06/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

My tickets were purchased as a gift. Transferring them to my account was a bit problematic but otherwise everything went well logistically and the concert was outstanding.

  • Concert absolutely fantastic but…..

by Tony on 13/06/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 5 out of 5

What a performance but Lionel did not begin untill nearly 21:30 with a 2 hour concert, felt this was late and a few people were starting to get annoyed waiting. I suppose this is ok if your local but I had a 2 hour drive to get home after and majority of concerts these days have started between 8-8:30 which is far better

  • Other artists are better value for money.

by Ally on 13/06/2025Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 3 out of 5

Great support act but it was another 50 mins before Lionel came on and then he was only on for an hour and 45 minutes. These tickets weren't cheap and although he's one of the best, it wasn't value for money compared to other artists of the same calibre.

  • Brilliant performance by Lionel Ritchie

by FPerks on 10/06/2025Utilita Arena Birmingham - BirminghamRating: 5 out of 5

Lionel was just fantastic, he didn't need a supporting act, and I personally didn't enjoy that part of the show, but Lionel made up for it, he's still as good now as he was years ago, I have seen him many times and still love him

  • It was very brilliant

What a stunning performance to a professional who continues to excel not lost his touch at all What a great night The only gripe I could make the support act although was really good was let down with pore sound and distortion would like to see again with a better sound engineer ..

  • Sound check needed

by Carol on 10/06/2025Utilita Arena Birmingham - BirminghamRating: 4 out of 5

The concert of Lionel Richie was very good however if the band had not been so load we could have heard is voice better rather than being drowned out . Overall an alright night
