About

History-making rap pioneer changing the face of hip hop

With his career still in its infancy, Atlanta-bred rapper Lil Baby had already established himself as a regular fixture in the charts. By his third studio album, the rapidly rising star had already racked up as many Billboard Hot 100 placements as Prince and Paul McCartney.

Born Dominique Armani Jones in 1994, Lil Baby was encouraged to become a rapper at age 17 by Kevin ‘Coach K’ Lee, founder of Quality Control Records. He was then mentored by Young Thug and Gunna, both of whom appeared – along with Lil Yachty, Young Scooter, Marlo and Yogi – on a series of successful mixtapes that jump-started Lil Baby’s career in 2017.

Riding high from the mixtapes, Lil Baby released his first studio album, Harder Than Ever, in May 2018. Featuring a glitzy supporting cast that included Drake, Offset, Lil Uzi Vert, Moneybagg Yo, Gunna and Young Thug, it debuted at No.3 on the US album charts.

Lil Baby didn’t rest on his laurels, returning in October of that same year with Drip Harder, a collaborative mixtape with Gunna that went to No.4 on the Billboard 200. Just a couple of months later, yet another mixtape arrived. Alongside Lil Baby’s regular collaborators, Street Gossip also featured Meek Mill, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz and NoCap.

In 2019, the prolific rapper added another string to his bow when he starred in the film How High 2. He also released the single ‘Out The Mud’ with Future, appeared alongside DaBaby on the single ‘Baby’, guested on Quality Control's second studio album, Control The Streets, Volume 2, and featured on KSI's track ‘Down Like That’ with Rick Ross and British producer S-X.

Pushing hard for the title of one of rap’s hardest-working stars, Lil Baby released his second studio album, My Turn, in February 2020, scoring his first US No.1 album. In June, amid the George Floyd protests, he released ‘The Bigger Picture’ in response to police violence and systemic racism. A No.3 single in the US, it became Lil Baby’s highest-charting song as a lead artist and earned Grammy nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

In 2021, Lil Baby appeared on two Drake tracks, ‘Wants And Needs’ and ‘Girls Want Girls’ from the Canadian star’s sixth album, Certified Lover Boy. In June of that year, he scored another No.1 album when he teamed up with Lil Durk for The Voice Of The Heroes, a collaborative album that featured Rod Wave, Meek Mill, Young Thug and Travis Scott.

In early 2022, Lil Baby joined forces with Nicki Minaj for singles ‘Do We Have a Problem?’ and ‘Bussin’ as well as providing the basis for the documentary Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival in June. His third studio album, It’s Only Me, was released in October 2022, becoming his third consecutive No.1 album.

At the turn of 2025, the rapper released his fourth full-length, WHAM, the final instalment in his Hard series. It included the hits 'Dum, Dumb and Dumber'featuring Young Thug and Future, as well as 'Due 4A Win' and 'Stuff' featuring Travis Scott. In February of that year, Lil Baby announced the WHAM World Tour, with dates in Manchester in London for September 2025.
