About

Liverpudlian singer-songwriter melding grungy and melodic indie rock

Born and raised in Liverpool, fiercely independent artist Zuzu plays the guitar and has been influenced by music from the ’60s and ’70s, such as The Beatles and The Beach Boys, as well as from the ’90s like Granddaddy, Bright Eyes and Pavement.

A self-proclaimed gamer, comic book illustrator and sci-fi nut, Zuzu wrote her first song when she was only seven, but didn’t start taking music seriously until she was 14. She said that being a lonely child not only gave her time to focus on songwriting, but also fostered her unwavering dedication to creative genius.

Zuzu unveiled her first single Get Off in 2016, but burst onto the music scene two years later with the track Beauty Queen. In 2018, she released her debut EP Made On Earth By Humans.

More than a talented singer-songwriter, Zuzu has helmed all her videos as the creator, producer, director and star. Through her honesty and rawness, she’s championed individuality and a musical community that lifts people up. These messages have helped her grow her dedicated fanbase, known as Planet Z.

Zuzu’s second EP How It Feels landed in 2020. With the world in lockdown, she used her time to write music for Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time: Distant Lands and rework her song How It Feels for The Sims video game.

Zuzu took part in one of the UK’s first non-socially distant live entertainment events in May 2021. She provided support for Blossoms at a government trial scheme in Liverpool in front of 5,000 fans.

In August 2021, she released the single My Old Life and announced her debut album Queensway Tunnel would arrive on 12 November 2021 via Planet Z Records. It features contributions from Kieran Shudall of Circa Waves and Simon Tong, formerly of The Verve and Gorillaz and now of The Magnetic North, along with an array of Liverpool musicians including Callum Crighton, Zee Devine, Red Rum Club, Amber Jay and Remèe.

In addition to a series of late summer appearances and support shows, Zuzu also confirmed details for a series of headline dates to support Queensway Tunnel in December 2021.
