About
Provocative nu-metal duo who strive to be agents of chaos
Creating a soundtrack to people’s rage is part of what drives Wargasm. After Sam Matlock’s band Dead! broke up, the singer and guitarist started sending song ideas to Milkie Way, an international model and session bassist for Barns Courtney. The London-based duo originally met and formed a friendship through the underground music scene. Inspired by Limp Bizkit and Radiohead as well as acts like Rina Sawayama and Poppy, they started making bedroom demos together as Wargasm, dubbing their sound “angry music for sad people”.
Their debut song Post Modern Rhapsody was released in August 2019, and they played their first show a few weeks later.
Among Wargasm’s other early tracks were SPIT. and Backyard Bastards, which they wrote in 2020 at the start of the first coronavirus lockdown. The lyrics tapped into their anger at politicians as well as the feeling that the world was a dark, heavy place.
They also released a ferocious cover of N.E.R.D’s Lapdance, and continued their string of singles with God Of War and Rage All Over, arriving in late 2020. Being unable to play live shows, the nu-metalheads performed live stream shows as part of Yungblud’s virtual tour and Slipknot’s online Knotfest: Pulse Of The Maggots. Wargasm kicked off 2021 with two more post-apocalyptic angst-filled singles: Your Patron Saints and Pyro Pyro, before releasing their first EP, Explicit: The Mixxxtape, in summer 2022. The band continued to tour throughout the year (supporting Neck Deep in the UK, and Limp Bizkit in the States), before playing a triumphant set at Download festival and ending the year with an unexpected Christmas cover of a Girls Aloud song ('Something Kinda Oooh').
In July 2023, Wargasm announced a date for their debut album, Venom, set for worldwide release on October 27. The announcement came with a frenetic and fiery new single ('Do It So Good').
This was followed in 2024 with news of a huge autumn and winter tour, stopping at Cardiff, Norwich, Oxford and Liverpool.
