Veronese: Magnificence in Renaissance Venice
The National Gallery, London
19 March – 15 June 2014
Experience the key works of Paolo Veronese – one of the leading painters of the 16th century – in the first monographic show on the artist to be held in the United Kingdom.
Veronese’s pictures are magnificent visions of the opulence and spectacle of Renaissance Venetian life. Discover exquisitely painted characters clamouring for status and sumptuously dressed in the latest Renaissance fashions.
A virtuoso and a craftsman, Veronese created works ranging from complex frescoes to altarpieces, devotional paintings, mythological, allegorical and historical pictures, and portraits. This exhibition is a visual feast of around 50 works by the artist, including major loans and the National Gallery’s own ‘Family of Darius before Alexander’ and the four ‘Allegories of Love’.
With the chance to immerse yourself in Veronese’s colourful, dramatic and large-scale art, this show offers a glorious day out.
