About Tom Odell

Chicester-born singer-songwriter Tom Odell is known for soulful piano ballads that stir emotions.

He was a music prodigy of sorts writing original songs since the age of 13. To this day, he describes himself as being “unquenchably obsessed with the piano”.

When he was 18, Odell opted not to attend university. Instead he attempted to get a place in a music college and built up his experience as a performer at open-mic events. While studying at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, he played in a band called Tom and the Tides for a short time, ultimately deciding to move to London and pursue a career as a solo artist.

Odell began building a loyal fan following when he was 21 years old with the 2012 release of his EP Songs from Another Love. A guest appearance later that year on the Later… with Jools Howard show also got him noticed by the pubic and critics alike – plus led to comparisons with artists like Jeff Buckley and Chris Martin.

Odell’s debut album, Long Way Down, came out in 2013 and rose to No.1 on the UK charts as well as produced the hit tracks Another Love, Grow Old with Me, Hold Me and Can’t Pretend.

Awards followed soon after, with Odell winning a Critics’ Choice BRIT Award in 2013 and an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2014.

Odell’s second album, Wrong Crowd, was released in 2016 to huge acclaim, hitting No.2 on the UK album charts and featuring the standout track Magnetised.

Now Odell has over 1.8 million sales under his belt. And his third album, Jubilee Road, which will be released on 18 October, is set to be his best yet – especially judging by the reception of his recently released, gospel-soaked single If You Wanna Love Somebody.

Following the conclusion of Odell’s world tour at the end of 2016, he moved into a house on a quiet terraced street in East London. Inspired by the friends and neighbours he got to know while living there, that’s where he wrote the songs for Jubilee Road.

Similar to the musicians he idolises, Elton John and Billy Joel (who is now one of Odell’s most vocal fans), he’s at his best when writing and singing about real-life moments and dramas.

Catch Tom Odell on tour throughout the UK in late October to support his new album.
