Boyband sensation that rocketed to fame in the early ’10s

In 2009, five normal lads – Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Nathan Sykes and Tom Parker – were the lucky ones selected after a long audition process held by Geffen, the same record label that put together bands like The Saturdays and Parade. Within a year the British-Irish pop group The Wanted emerged.

When the five-piece released their 2010 debut track All Time Low, it hit No.1 on the UK singles chart, with their second track Heart Vacancy peaking at No.2. Several top writers and producers including Taio Cruz, Wayne Hector (JLS, Nicki Minaj) and Steve Mac (Westlife, Ed Sheeran) helped on The Wanted’s eponymous debut album, which charted at No.4 in the UK and ended up being certified platinum.

Immediately after releasing The Wanted, they began working with Mac on their follow-up Battleground. In early 2011, the quintet unveiled the lead track Gold Forever as the Red Nose Day single during the Comic Relief telethon. A few months later their second track, Glad You Came, was released and shot The Wanted to global fame, scoring No.1s in the UK, Ireland and Canada as well as charting in several other countries including the US.

In early 2013, the band appeared on a TV reality series called The Wanted Life that saw them move in together in Los Angeles to work on recording their third album and plan their first world tour. At the end of the year, Word Of Mouth arrived, preceded by the lead collaborative singles Chasing The Sun written by rapper Example and Satellite co-written by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder. After embarking on their hugely successful Word Of Mouth Tour in 2014, The Wanted went on hiatus with all of the members pursuing various solo projects.

Initially, they discussed reuniting in early 2020 to celebrate their 10th anniversary, but the coronavirus pandemic made that impossible. In addition, Parker had been diagnosed with a brain tumour. Deciding to turn his personal tragedy into something positive, he made a documentary for Stand Up To Cancer called Tom Parker – Inside My Head. He also decided to stage a huge concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall to raise funds for medical research and new treatments.

The Wanted announced they would perform together for the first time in seven years at Tom Parker’s Inside My Head – The Concert on 20 September 2021. In addition, they revealed details for a greatest hits album, Most Wanted: The Greatest Hits, due out on 12 November 2021 as well as a huge UK tour for March 2022.

The Wanted are touring the UK from 3 – 17 March 2022 in support of their new album Most Wanted: The Greatest Hits.
