After a five-year break from touring, The Saw Doctors staged a brilliant comeback last year with sold-out shows in London at Hammersmith Apollo, New York at Hammerstein Ballroom, and two homecoming shows in Tuam where they played to 10,000 people in St. Jarlath’s Arena.
The Saw Doctors are powered by songwriters Davy Carton (vocals) and Leo Moran (guitar) with a band lineup including former Waterboy Anthony Thistlethwaite on saxophone, Rickie O’Neill, drums Will Merrigan, bass guitar, Kieran Duddy, keyboards and Noelie McDonnell, backing vocals.
Discovered by Mike Scott of The Waterboys on a stormy Tuesday night in Galway City in the late 1980s, The Saw Doctors grew quickly, touring around Ireland and Great Britain, including a six-week stint with The Waterboys on the Fisherman’s Blues tour in 1989.
The Saw Doctors second single, ‘I Useta Lover’ was a surprise Number One hit in Ireland in 1990, remaining top of the charts for nine weeks, going on to become the biggest-selling Irish single ever.
In August 2021, The Saw Doctors scored a surprise chart success when the vinyl re-release. of the band’s debut album 'If This Is Rock And Roll, I Want My Old Job Back’ landed at No. 3 in the Irish Album charts.
“If The Saw Doctors could bottle the sort of bonhomie that can make an entire concert hall feel better, they would have the medicine show to end them all.” - The Times
Great night at the Saw Doctors. Energetic performance by the lads; plenty of past hits sprinkled with some smashing new numbers. Just loved the JCCB.
The band were on top form as always, it was my first time at the Kelvingrove Bandstand and what a fantastic place , very clean , drinking water tap for you just to help yourself, plenty of bins , good clean toilets , and all staff were very professional and very helpful, first aid was highly visible from anywhere in the gig , with ambulance on standby, I would like to thank the band and organisers for a great night ,
Saw them in the 90s and so glad to say the saw doctors still got it. Brilliant show , played for ages and gave it everything . Just a fantastic night
Yet another fantastic night with The Saw Doctors who never fail to deliver. Everything from Howya Julia to Man in the Moon was a crowd pleaser. They looked as if they were having as mich fun as we were. Having supported them for over 20 years, they have never given a bad performance. Can't wait for the December gig, although we're not meant to know about that. Keep rocking guys.
Bandstand is a tremendously well-organised venue only surpassed by the band, who were superb, as always
A wonderful night in Kelvingrove Park watching the Saw Doctors with family and friends. The band were on top form, one of the best I've seen (and there have been a few!), playing belter after belter and thrilling the welcoming Glasgow audience. For those seeing them for the first time or for myself who saw them first at T in the Park in Hamilton all those years ago, it was a fabulous experience. You cannot beat singing your heart out with a couple of thousand like minded people in the open in air on a summer night. To Davy, Leo and the boys, a thousand thanks and I hope we meet again.
Absolutely unbelievably great evening. From first song by support act right through the whole gig. See you in December.
The all experience was excellent the venue was a great place the saw doctors was out of this world
Castlefield Bowl is a great outdoor venue We were lucky with the weather, Event staff were helpful and friendly A packed crowd made for a fantastic atmosphere Derry Band the Undertones were on first and never disappoint they're a great live band Then Billy Bragg came on stage ,Far to preachy and political, Then the Saw Doctors who were brilliant really got the crowd going with a great set.
Great band ! But dreadful venue. Awful ! Left early overrated. Over filled and dreadful Staff. They shouldn't over sell venues. There where ticket holders left outside with us and couldn't see the stage.
