What is the Phantom of the Opera about?
Adapting Gaston Leroux’s gothic French fairytale, Andrew Lloyd Webber tells the story of Christine Daaé, a talented soprano entangled in a love triangle with handsome nobleman Raoul, and the mysterious and disfigured musical genius known as the Phantom of the Opera. Set in the Paris Opera House, the narrative delves into themes of love and obsession. The Phantom, residing beneath the opera house, tutors Christine in secret, leading to dramatic events that unfold against a backdrop of lavish set designs and music.

Featuring some of the most spectacular special effects in musical theatre, the Olivier and Tony Award-winning musical is also known for breathtaking love songs such as ‘The Music Of The Night’, ‘Wishing You Were Somewhere Here Again’, ‘All I Ask Of You’ and the titular anthem, ‘The Phantom Of The Opera’.
The Phantom of the Opera’s music was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, and the libretto was crafted collaboratively by Lloyd Webber and Stilgoe.
Record-Breaking Triumph: The Phantom’s legacy on Broadway and the West End
In 2006, the show became the longest-running in Broadway history, surpassing the previous record holder, Cats. In 2016, the West End production celebrated 30 years with a special appearance of the original cast during the curtain call.

London bus routes 6, 13, 15, 23, 139, 159, and 453 all stop in the vicinity of His Majesty's Theatre.
We strongly recommend taking public transport, but in the case that you do need to drive to His Majesty's Theatre, St Martin’s Street and Trafalgar Square offer the nearest parking facilities.
A daily charge of £15 applies on weekdays (Mon-Fri) from 7:00 to 18:00 and on weekends (Sat-Sun) and bank holidays from 12:00 to 18:00.

The Stalls Auditorium offers evel access. Three wheelchair positions in rows E, J, and M (aisle seats) are available, and additional seating for accompanying party members is provided. Customers who wish to transfer from a wheelchair can use any aisle seat in the Stalls (low numbers side).
Assistance Dogs are welcome in the theatre.

Andrew Lloyd Webber also insisted Sarah Brightman go on to star on the Broadway show too.
