Since forming The Midnight, Tyler Lyle and Tim McEwan have been redefining the lighter, pop side of synthwave.
Hailing from Georgia and inspired by classic songwriters such as Paul Simon and Bob Dylan, Lyle primarily established himself within the indie-folk genre. McEwan, on the other hand, was born in Denmark and has produced songs for a wide array of artists ranging from The Wanted and New Kids On The Block to Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The pair met in 2012 during a writing workshop in North Hollywood where they connected over their shared passion for ’80s synth pop and the soundtrack of the 2011 film Drive. The duo discovered an alchemy that arose when their two notably different backgrounds were combined.
The Midnight’s first EP, Days Of Thunder, came out in 2014 and featured six cuts from those early sessions, including WeMoveForward and Gloria. Full of bright, pulsating synth pop, the songs were also characterised by electric guitar flourishes and sax solos.
In 2016, their debut studio album Endless Summer was released and offered even more high-energy synthesiser artistry evoking nostalgic and wistful shades of classic ’80s film soundtracks.
The Midnight followed that up in 2017 with Nocturnal, a breakout success that landed Lyle and McEwan on the Billboard dance/electronic chart. Whereas Endless Summer felt like a soundtrack to young love, Nocturnal's darker tones suggested the ensuing loss and heartbreak.
In 2018, The Midnight followed Nocturnal with another EP, Kids, and spent much of 2019 touring the world. On 10 July 2020, the duo’s second full-length album Monsters arrived, showcasing more of their colourful synths and evocative lyrics via the singles Deep Blue, Dance With Somebody and Prom Night.
In July 2020, The Midnight announced two UK dates in London and Glasgow for March 2021 to support Monsters.
The Midnight are playing two shows in the UK in March 2021.
The duo will appear at London's O2 Academy Brixton on 13 March 2021 and Glasgow's SWG3 on 14 March 2021.

It comes from a Japanese term and is The Midnight’s motto. The phrase refers to looking back and being aware of the fact that nothing lasts forever.
