Witness the dynamic RSC production of The Merchant of Venice 1936 in London’s West End

‘THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF HOW TO DO SHAKESPEARE’ (Metro)

Ambition, power and political unrest explode onto the stage in The Merchant of Venice 1936, returning to London’s West End due to phenomenal demand.

Starring Tracy-Ann Oberman (EastEnders, Doctor Who) as Shylock, Shakespeare’s classic is transported to 1930s Britain in this “striking and impactful” (Guardian) new production that “makes theatre history” (The Telegraph). It is adapted by Brigid Larmour and Tracy-Ann Oberman.

A captivating and timeless story about revenge:

As tensions escalate in London’s East End, Shylock, portrayed as a resilient single mother and industrious businesswoman, is determined to safeguard her daughter’s future. The narrative takes a dramatic turn when the charismatic merchant Antonio seeks a loan from her, leading to a high-stakes deal. The question lingers – will Shylock exact her revenge, and who will bear the ultimate cost?

”If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?”

Immerse yourself in this unforgettable and timely rendition, described by the Daily Mail as a “fascinating” reminder of a pivotal moment in British history.

Running time: 2 hours including interval.
