Tears For Fears UK tour set for 2022

Ahead of the release of their seventh studio album The Tipping Point, new wave stars Tears For Fears have announced a new UK tour for July 2022, playing tracks from the new album and of course their inimitable, career-spanning hits. The tour will see Tears For Fears play huge outdoor shows in Waddesdon Manor, Longleat, Chewton Glen and more.

Though it’s perhaps true that no decade saw as many instantly recognisable hits than the 80s, few from that time had the pulling power to match the iridescent opening notes of Tears For Fears’ ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ – still just as irresistible today as it was back in 1985.

But Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith had already made their mark, even before they released Songs From The Big Chair, the album on which their enduring hit featured. Their debut two years earlier, The Hurting, featured tracks such as the ubiquitous ‘Mad World’ and synth-pop anthem ‘Pale Shelter’ and reached No.1 in just its second week, welcoming the world to their sombre, atmospheric, but head-nodding brand of new wave pop.

While it didn't follow its predecessor to the top of the UK charts, Songs From The Big Chair was welcomed even more readily by critics and musos. Quite appropriately, given its biggest hit, it took the band’s international renown to another level, with tracks like “Shout”, “Head Over Heels / Broken” and of course 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' becoming sensations all across Europe, North America, New Zealand and South Africa.

Often referred to as their Sergeant Pepper moment, the duo’s third full-length The Seeds Of Love added a dreamier, perhaps even psychedelic, string to their bow. But though there are surely Beatles moments in the likes of “Sowing The Seeds Of Love”, these songs were still fit for the large, smokey stages Orzabal and Smith were playing on their world tours.

Though Smith decided to leave the group in 1992, Orzabal continued to carry the Tears For Fears flag along with longtime band collaborator Alan Griffiths. However, in 2004 after letting bygones be bygones, the friends reunited with perhaps a knowing nod to their fans with Everybody Loves A Happy Ending, which harked back to their third LP with a refreshed Brit-pop sheen. Indeed, it was far from an ending, and after  returning to the international touring and festival circuit, announced news of new album The Tipping Point in October 2021.
