Spot now in his 32nd year and going stronger than ever!
The show sees Spot celebrate his birthday with his friends, Steve (the monkey), Helen (the hippo) and Tom (the crocodile). Spot’s mum and dad, Sally and Sam, plus special guest magical entertainer, Marco (the rabbit) will be there too, ensuring there’s never a dull moment. Children and parents will be invited to join in the fun with music and songs, games and stories. It will be theatrical magic to capture everyone’s imagination.
Children will be encouraged to arrive at the theatre dressed for a party, bringing a home-made birthday card for Spot. The Show is suitable for ages 2+
Spot is currently enjoying his 32nd year as an international favourite amongst early learners and parents alike and this show presents a great opportunity for children to gain a more interactive experience with their favourite puppy.
David Wood, “simply the most popular children’s dramatist there is” (BBC Radio 4), is the UK’s premier children’s playwright (The Gingerbread Man, The BFG, The Tiger Who Came To Tea, Meg and Mog Show). David has taken Eric Hill’s characters and woven them into a bright and colourful musical entertainment that both educates and entertains. It is the perfect introduction to theatre for young children.
Spot’s Birthday Party was first performed at The Oxford Playhouse in 2000. The original production was much praised, receiving rave reviews, and went on to tour the UK until 2002. More than a decade later, David Wood and his creative team are much looking forward to revisiting their original production of Spot’s Birthday Party.
Eric Hill created the first ever commercially successful lift-the-flap book Where’s Spot? as a bedtime read for his son in 1980 and the world’s most loveable puppy has entertained children ever since. Spot has become an international publishing, licensing and animation phenomenon. Over fifty million Spot books have been sold worldwide; Spot is read by children in more than 100 countries and has been translated into over sixty languages. In 2008 Eric Hill received an OBE for services to children’s literature.
