The raucous duo return
Soft Play came from the ashes of punk duo Slaves, as Isaac Holman and Laurie Vincent began a new chapter in December 2022.
Under their previous moniker, the pair racked up legions of fans for their raucous sound on albums, Sugar Coated Bitter Truth (2012), Are You Satisfied? (2015), Take Control (2016) and Acts of Fear and Love (2018).
Ever one to make a statement, in August 2023 the band entered their new Soft Play era with ‘Punk’s Dead’, which premiered on BBC Radio 1 as Jack Saunders’ Hottest Record In The world, alongside news that they would be joining the Reading & Leeds festival lineup as a surprise addition. Rolling Stone called ‘Punk’s Dead’ “a three-minute slice of riotous guitar rock.” Laurie and Isaac also revealed that the song features a cameo from Robbie Williams, a fan of the band.
The festival billing followed their headline performance at 2000 Trees festival in July, as well as a homecoming show at Tumbridge Wells Forum. Soft Play joinedThe Prodigy’s UK arena tour in November 2023 as a main support.
In June 2024, after releasing new single 'Everything and Nothing', the duo announced a headline UK tour for October, including stops at Sheffield, Cardiff, Birmingham, Bristol, Nottingham and London.
Amazing night, brilliant music and absolutely fantastic tempo
An amazing show as expected, have wanted to see Soft Play (Slaves) for so long and they didn't disappoint! Such a fun, loud and energetic show, fantastic engagement with the crowd and really entertaining with fantastic stage presence. Great set list, banger after banger. Can't wait to see them again!
The band was great the venue was overfull N̈nnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Well Organised, enjoyed very much. The Band were amazing , loved every minute.
Great gig, almost spoilt by O2 overfilling the place - absolutely rammed - band had to stop performance twice due to the crush. Shame on O2 - this seems to be a consistent practice at their venues. Drinks aweful and overpriced too. Had the same issue at O2 Oxford and O2 Bristol and Brixton. I no longer go to these venues because the discomfort detracts so much from the enjoyment of the bands. I won't be going to O2 Institute in Birmingham again
