About
One of comedy’s freshest voices
Born and raised in India, Sindhu Vee (full name Sindhu Venkatanarayanan) came to London in her 20s to begin a career in investment banking before shocking her parents and switching to comedy.
In 2012, she started performing stand-up at small clubs in the UK and India. Vee made the finals for the BBC New Comedy Award in 2016 and was nominated for Best Newcomer in 2018 after making her Edinburgh Fringe debut with the show Sandhog, which she took on tour around the UK throughout 2019.
In addition to performing live, Sindhu created some Sky Comedy shorts in 2018 that included Sindhu Vee’s Live And Let Love, Say My Name and Sick Of It.
Over the years, she’s become a regular face on television appearing in shows like QI, Live At The Apollo and Have I Got News For You and Mock The Week. She also plays Mrs Hanan, Olivia’s mum, in the popular Netflix show Sex Education and Karen, a Narcotics Anonymous member, in the Canadian romcom Feel Good.
Sindhu can often be heard on radio too. She did two shows for Radio 4 in 2018: Sindhustan and Things My Mother Never Told Me (...About Lockdown). In addition to being a regular on The Guilty Feminist podcast, she co-hosts the Child Labour podcast with Stuart Goldsmith.
Known for delving into the humorous side of family dysfunction, Sindhu is married to a Dane and has been raising three children in the UK – a triple clash of cultures that provides her with a wealth of material. The Evening Standard has called her an “outspoken, frank and funny stand-up”, while The List praised her “acerbic perspective and unapologetic delivery”.
In late October 2020, Sindhu Vee announced the 2021 UK tour of her brand-new show Alphabet.
