About Senior British Open Championship

Since the inaugural tournament in 1987 The Senior British Open Championship has become firmly established on the Seniors' world golfing calendar with its popular blend of fierce competition, relaxed atmosphere and camaraderie.

The Senior British Open Championship returns to the magnificent Ailsa Course at the Westin Turnberry Resort for the sixth time in 2006. The Championship is sanctioned by The R&A (the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews), the European Seniors Tour and the US Champions Tour and is recognized as one of golf's five Seniors' Majors.

We are looking forward to a very strong international field once again including the defending Champion, Tom Watson of the United States who secured the title after a thrilling play-off with Ireland's Des Smyth.

Former Open Champion at Turnberry, Greg Norman, will be looking to improve on his third place in 2005 and European Seniors Tour Order of Merit Champion, Sam Torrence will also be in attendance to boost the home challenge.

The Championship will carry the biggest prize fund on the European Seniors Tour and will receive live television coverage around the world.
