About

The indie-pop trio known for their joyful anthems

Formed in London in 2005, Scouting For Girls consists of three childhood friends – lead vocalist and guitarist Roy Stride, drummer Peter Ellard and bass guitarist Greg Churchouse. Choosing their name as a play on the title of a 1908 Scouts’ manual, they began making music together from the age of 15 and by the time they went to university had already built up a loyal fan base.

Despite having plenty of recorded material, Scouting For Girls had trouble finding a label. That changed when Nick Raphael of Epic Records heard their demo and recognised the star potential. After being signed the three-piece went straight into the studio with veteran producer Andy Green (KT Tunstall, Keane, The Feeling) and made the EP It's Not About You, which came out in June 2007.

Their self-titled debut was unveiled that September and sat at No.1 on the UK albums chart for two weeks, spawning the hit singles Elvis Ain't Dead and She's So Lovely. This was followed by a sell-out 2007 UK tour, with Scouting For Girls heading across Europe as well as to the US and Japan in 2008.

The band released their follow-up, Everybody Wants To Be On TV, in 2010. The first single, This Ain't A Love Song, went straight to No. 1 in the UK. The album was another big success, climbing to No.2 in the UK.

Scouting For Girls have been nominated for many awards during their career, including four BRITs and an Ivor Novello between 2009 and 2011.

Their third album, The Light Between Us, arrived in 2012 and peaked at No.10 on the UK albums chart, followed by 2015’s Still Thinking About You and 2019’s The Trouble With Boys.

On 27 November 2020, Scouting For Girls released the festive single Xmas In The ’80s and announced details about their sixth studio album Easy Cover. Due out on 26 March 2021 and playing off their hero Phil Collins’ Easy Lover, it’s a fun re-imagining of some of the biggest songs from the ’80s. In addition, the band confirmed a massive UK tour in autumn 2021 which saw them perform to over 50 thousand fans across their longest live run to date.

  • The Glider was buzzing

by Chops on 15/11/2024Boston Gliderdrome - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Went to see Scouting For Girls at Boston Gliderdrome. Absolutely brilliant night, the place was packed and the crowd were buzzing, Roy Stride certainly knows how to work a crowd. Mention must also be made of the two support acts; Vince Freeman and Jamie Lawson who were also very good. You could tell Vince was having a blast and although I didn't think I knew about Jamie as soon as he started I thought "I know that song". The younger element certainly knew him and were singing along. Well picked warm up acts. Finally I have to say the acoustics in "The Glider"were fantastic, it's easy to see why the place used to be "the place to go"in it's glory days, to see acts a few decades ago (it hosted some of the biggest acts in the music industry)

Lovely well organised venue. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Didn't have to queue long for the bar. Reasonable drink prices too. Just a really nice experience. Can't wait to do it again. Scouting for Girls did not let us down. As ever they were amazing and got the crowd going.
