About

The biggest names in pop in a historic, al fresco setting

Scarborough's Open Air Theatre (SOAT) was built by Scarborough Corporation in the 1930s. The Lord Mayor of London opened the Open Air Theatre in Northstead Manor Gardens in 1932, and audiences flocked to see Merrie England, the first production to be staged at the outdoor venue.

The theatre underwent a major refurbishment and, on 20 May 2010, the newly refurbished Scarborough Open Air Theatre was officially opened by The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh.

Since its official re-opening, the Scarborough OAT has played host to some of the music industry's biggest stars, including Elton John, Britney Spears, Gary Barlow, Kylie, Noel Gallagher, Lionel Richie, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Biffy Clyro, Little Mix, Lewis Capaldi and many more.

The SOAT 2020 schedule was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in its planned series of gigs being rescheduled to 2021 and 2022. Acts confirmed for Scarborough Open Air Theatre 2021 included long-running disco-funk outfit Nile Rogers & CHIC, indie pop bands James, Courteeners and Keane, chart-topper Anne-Marie, reggae-pop pioneers UB40 feat. Ali Campbell and Astro, and 80s idols Duran Duran.

Canadian rocker Bryan Adams, New Zealand's revered Crowded House, the international sensation Ru Paul's Drag Race, Scottish troubadour Lewis Capaldi, bona fide pop royalty Lionel Richie, Irish record-breakers Westlife and indie poppers The Wombats were all confirmed for SOAT 2022.
