An artist who knows how to set the dance floor on fire, singer-songwriter Rita Ora commands audiences with her high-energy numbers, incredible vocal chops and fierce stage presence.

Born in Pristina, Yugoslavia (now Kosovo) to Albanian parents, her family left when the country was torn apart by civil war in the early ’90s. Ora was only one-year-old when they arrived in the United Kingdom, later settling in Notting Hill. Her father opened a pub and her mother worked as a psychiatrist.

As a child, Ora fell in love with music and the spotlight after playing Cinderella in a primary school play. She studied performing arts at London’s famous Sylvia Young Theatre School, counting former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson among her classmates. After leaving school at 16, she begged her parents to let her make a go of singing. A year later, Ora’s career was kickstarted after recording with Craig David on his 2008 tracks Awkward and Where’s Your Love.

In 2009, she found herself flying to New York City – on her first trip to America – for an appointment to meet Jay-Z and ended up being signed to his Roc Nation label.

After providing backing vocals for artists like Jay-Z and Drake, Ora was enlisted by drum ’n’ base producer DJ Fresh as the main vocalist for his 2012 track Hot Right Now. Debuting at the top of the charts, it became the UK’s first ever No.1 drum ’n’ base single.

Her debut studio album simply called Ora came out later that year and also went to No.1 on the UK albums chart, with tracks like How We Do (Party) and R.I.P. topping charts around the world. The Ora Tour, her first headline outing, kicked off soon after, followed by The Radioactive Tour in 2013.

Around this time, Ora’s acting career also took off. She landed a cameo in the Vin Diesel-led action film Fast & Furious 6, playing the head girl of a London racing crew.

In 2014, Ora’s other big love – fashion – paid off when her bold street-to-stage ensembles led to a designer collaboration with Adidas. Plus that year, her single I Will Never Let You Down scored her another UK No.1.

More chances to collaborate came in 2015 when Ora was featured on Iggy Azalea’s track Black Widow. She also played Christian Grey’s sister Mia in the Fifty Shades franchise, became a coach on the fourth series of The Voice UK and was a judge on the 12th series of The X Factor. What’s more, Ora has been a judge and presenter on the reality TV show America’s Next Top Model since 2016.

Following the conclusion of her 2018 Girls Tour, Ora’s long-awaited sophomore album Phoenix arrived and spawned three more top 10 UK singles: Your Song, Anywhere and Let You Love Me. It also featured collaborations on the tracks Lonely Together with the late Avicii and Girls with Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX and Cardi B. Ora embarked on the Phoenix World Tour in 2019, which was scheduled to run into 2020, but most of the dates were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2019, Ora appeared in the family movie Pokemon: Detective Pikachu as scientist Dr Ann Laurent, and recorded a song for its soundtrack called Carry On with Kygo. In addition, she became the face of the German fashion brand Escada.

Ora began appearing as a jury member on the British version of the music show The Masked Singer in 2020.

In early 2021, she released the EP Bang with DJ and producer Imanbek. Its lead single Big featured guest musicians David Guetta and Gunna. In addition to performing at TRNSMT Festival 2021, Ora announced a live-streamed night of music, dance and fashion called Iconic People In Iconic Places with the Eiffel Tower as the backdrop on 30 September 2021 in conjunction with Paris Fashion Week.
