About

Rhod Gilbert & The Giant Grapefruit

When life gives Rhod lemons…

In his last show ‘The Book of John’, Rhod was dealing with some pretty pungent life citrus, and an idiot called John. Little did he know that things were about to turn even more sour… But Rhod’s not bitter; he’s bouncing back and feeling remarkably zesty. Hilariously dark, passionate and way too personal, this is classic Gilbert, squeezing every last drop out of life’s latest curveballs...with a little help from an old adversary.

Its my third time seeing rhod live and he was absolutely amazing, it was good seeing him battling cancer in his own way and finding making light of the situation.

Thrilled to see Rhod Gilbert back in Swansea! Amazing as ever, loved his take on his cancer journey and the hilarious observations on the grimmest time imaginable. Also great to see his opening act, the second best black welsh comedian on the circuit :)

  • Hilarious and Emotional

Excellent as always. We laughed and laughed and also very informative if you are lucky enough not to have been touched by cancer in any way. Rhod certainly did put humour into his horrendous experience with cancer. Brilliant show and the ending very emotional but also very uplifting and shows there can be a light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Hope to see Rhod again on his next tour. If you haven't already booked to go you should it is a great night out.

  • Epic

by She sparkles on 10/11/2024Victoria Theatre - HalifaxRating: 5 out of 5

Hilarious; heartfelt; honest (very! 😂); sharing is caring. An emotional roller coaster of Rhod's cancer journey, from pre-diagnosis through to the all clear (yesss). A genuine, if at times grumpy, analysis of what cancer means and what lengths it can push a person to, but still retain a sense of humour. You'll never look at your cutlery drawer in the same way again 😳😂

  • Humour in a tumour

We all know cancer is not a laughing matter. We also know we need to look on the bright side of life - as sung in Life of Brian. So when a survivor tells you about their experience with the gifted skill of Rhod Gilbert, you engage. That is what story telling is all about, getting engagement. Fabulous night, funny and thought provoking.

How Rhod manages to tell the story of his cancer battle with humour is extraordinary, fantastic insightful comedian, humour at its best making fun out of negativity

  • Rhod's back and better than ever

by SonicBoom on 27/10/2024Plymouth Pavilions - PlymouthRating: 5 out of 5

This is Rhod's first show since his cancer journey and the focus of the show is very much on this. However despite it being a sensitive subject Rhod manages to make it funny (dark sense of humour may be needed). This show was brilliant and my face hurt from laughing so much. Loved every minute and the end was especially heartwarming.

What an incredible night!! Rhod admits that the subject of his cancer (the topic of the show) is dark, but he injects his trademark humour in to a funny, very touching and moving evening. I felt privileged to have him share his personal experiences, which were done sensitively and comically at the same time. Wholeheartedly recommend.

  • Amazing, inspirational and above all hilarious

What an amazing evening. Focused around Rhod's recent journey with cancer this show was brilliantly balanced with humour and thought provoking experiences of the challenging times he has faced over the last couple of years. We laughed, and we cried, but we left humbled by the positive attitude and bravery of our host. Well done Rhod, you nailed it.

  • Absolutely brilliant evening!!

What a great night, absolutely love Rhod. Lots of laughs with a serious undertone. Lots of great stories from the audience about their personal battles with cancer. You can't help but like him and be thankful he is winning his battle. I would recommend.

I laughed, I even cried both from humour and a tinge of sadness. A tale of one of lifes hardest times told brilliantly with grit and humour all the way through the show, bringing the fantastic John and his life knowledge back to us. Rhod Gilbert is just fantastic, please keep bringing your humour to the masses.

This was one of the funniest yet touching shows I've seen. It focuses around Rhod and his cancer battle it is belly aching funny and will bring a tear to your eyes. It's not a laugh at cancer it's a laugh at his battle with it. He delivers it so well with his manic rants and raves and then the quiet reminders of what cancer means to so many. It's great to have you here Rhod can't wait for the next tour.

  • Fantastic evening full of laughter and the odd tear

by Jay Kimbo on 21/10/2024Sheffield City Hall Oval Hall - SheffieldRating: 5 out of 5

We went to see Rhod in Sheffield 20th October 2024 and from the start we were laughing out loud!! Given his battles with cancer, which he goes into in some detail, it's quite incredible how he actually manages to make this very funny. My wife and I were laughing so much but be warned, there are moments of sadness. What a fantastic way of making people aware of this type of cancer, the treatment he received and the great work our NHS do! the many challenges involved, many I wouldn't have been aware of (or needed to know - "spoon"for example :)). It really is a must watch and thoroughly enjoyable!

  • To see a top comedian in full flow is a joy

We were a little concerned the show could be a little depressing but the show enlightening emotional and hilarious in all the right measures Can't wait for his next tour

  • Humour with a tumour

by Poorpiglet on 20/10/2024Sheffield City Hall Oval Hall - SheffieldRating: 5 out of 5

Black humour with the subject of cancer and the way it makes Rhod think and feel. Fantastically direct and hugely funny observations with the twist only a standup expert can weave through the reality. Laughed a lot, learned a lot and had a great time.
