About

Rhod Gilbert & The Giant Grapefruit

When life gives Rhod lemons…

In his last show ‘The Book of John’, Rhod was dealing with some pretty pungent life citrus, and an idiot called John. Little did he know that things were about to turn even more sour… But Rhod’s not bitter; he’s bouncing back and feeling remarkably zesty. Hilariously dark, passionate and way too personal, this is classic Gilbert, squeezing every last drop out of life’s latest curveballs...with a little help from an old adversary.

  • Heartfelt, warm and very likeable

Slightly different tone with this gig. Flashes of the old rhod made everyone giggle, but given the change in him due to the cancer treatment and survival, a lot of this was messages of hope for those going through their own battles with the disease. A unique atmosphere but I'm glad I was part of it. I have been lucky so far in that I have not experienced the horrific stuff cancer patients have to go through. It was entertaining, informative, heartwarming and the flashes of pseudo rage were very very funny.

  • A cathartic humorous view of Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Many people I heard around me hadn't heard why this show was called "Rhod Gilbert and the Giant Grapefruit". It refers to the size of the tumour he had. As a result, I would say this show should come with a trigger warning, but also that it was incredible to go through Rhod's journey from diagnosis, through treatment and the all clear. He talks about the ups and downs and frankly ridiculous abuse of cutlery. Amazing. Thanks for trusting us, Rhod.

Brilliant funny show as always, emotional at times but great to see something positive come from such a horrendous time.

A night full of every emotion possible. Crying with laughter and in the end crying with Rhod. A celebration of having cancer and living through it, delivered through Rhod's wonderful story telling.

  • An evening filled with laughter!

First time seeing Rhod Gilbert on stage. Wow! Considering the show was built around his battle with cancer, I honestly laughed from beginning to end! He struck the right balance between comedy and tragedy throughout the night! Nothing was off limits and his ability to turn difficult themes such as chemo side effects into real comedy gold, had an entire audience laughing themselves silly. As a result of this evening, Rhod Gilbert now has a new fan.

A very different sort of comedy night as the show is based on Rhods cancer experience. Was a brilliant show, very moving but still very funny. So glad we went.
