Mexico’s most streamed artist of all time

Revered for his fusion of the traditional ‘corrido’ genre with contemporary elements, the ‘LA PATRULLA’ singer has already racked up 50 million monthly Spotify listeners, broken records for his Grammy-winning album GÉNESIS and scooped up various awards since bursting onto the scene in the early 2020s.

Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija is widely celebrated for spearheading the new wave of corridos tumbados, a rising subgenre that blends classic Mexican ballads with urban beats and reggaeton. Credited with creating a fresh sound that resonates with younger generations, the singer has quickly amassed adoring fans all over the world, enjoying countless sold-out international stadium shows and festival slots along the way. Taking the name Peso Pluma, meaning “featherweight”, his music puts a powerful spin on the regional genre, typically known for its narrative style that tackles themes ranging from love and loss, to rebellion and drug trafficking. 

Officially the most streamed artist in Mexico, Peso Pluma’s success has seen him transcend his country’s music scene, going on to bridge cultural gaps and resonate with a global audience. From early successes such as his five-time Platinum Latin-certified Luis R. Conriquez duet ‘Siempre Pendientes’, to viral hits ‘AMG’ and ‘PRC’ with Natanael Cano, Peso Pluma has harnessed the power of collaborative projects to expand his reach. Joining forces with Eslabon Armado in March 2023, they made history with the track ‘Ella Baila Sola’, which swiftly became the first regional Mexican song to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. This momentum saw eight of Peso Pluma’s previous releases catapulted into the Hot 100, crowning him the Mexican act with the most Spanish-language entries in the US. Released on his own record label, Double P Records, his third studio album, GÉNESIS (2022), followed – going on to win a Grammy for Best ‘Música Mexicana Album’.

Where GÉNESIS explored raw and personal storytelling through the lens of his upbringing, Peso Pluma’s polished follow-up, ÉXODO (2024), arrived with a more upbeat catalogue of songs. Peaking at No.5 on the Billboard 200, the 24-track effort featured yet more high-profile collaborations such as Cardi B and Quavo, as well as regional Mexican stars such as Junior H. Taken from the album, fan-favourite ‘LA PATRULLA’ tells the story of a rebellious protagonist navigating the challenges of life on the streets, against a blended backdrop of modern trap and Mexican instrumental flourishes. Elsewhere, ‘HOLLYWOOD’ mixes corridos with a contemporary twist, capturing Peso Pluma’s ambition for fame – a feat he has well and truly achieved, in Mexico and beyond.

In March 2025, Peso Pluma announced the La Doble P World Club European Tour.
