The Modfather plays Edinburgh Castle July 2024
Few people have had as great an influence on the British music scene as Paul Weller. As frontman of The Jam, Weller spearheaded the Mod revival in the late '70s and early '80s, scoring a string of hits, including Going Underground and A Town Called Malice. After The Jam split in the early '80s, Weller immediately formed the neo-soul and American R&B-influenced Style Council with The Merton Parka’s Mick Talbot. Following their disbandment in 1990, Weller embarked on a solo career, with Talbot remaining as a regular contributor.
As Britpop began to dominate in the early and mid '90s, Weller’s influence became apparent, particularly on the likes of Oasis, Blur and Ocean Colour Scene. Following a successful solo bow with his self-titled debut in 1992, Weller teamed up with OCS guitarist Steve Craddock for his second solo album Wild Wood, an album that saw both Weller and Ocean Colour Scene move up the charts.
Buoyed by the success of the top ten hit The Changingman, Weller’s third solo album Stanley Road went straight to No.1 in 1995. With major players like Noel Gallagher acknowledging his influence, Weller became known as the godfather of Britpop or the “Modfather”.
Despite claiming that 2001’s well-received Heliocentric would be his final studio album, Weller continued to be productive throughout the '00s, releasing two live albums, a collection of covers and three further studio albums.
Weller started off a new decade as relevant as ever, earning a Mercury Prize nomination for 2010’s Wake Up The Nation. His follow-up Sonik Kicks debuted at No.1 while its successor Saturn’s Pattern went close, landing at No.2 on the UK album charts. In 2017, Weller released his first film score, for the boxing film Jawbone.
Weller’s 2018 album True Meanings found the songwriter backed by an orchestra, and he went on to promote the record with a series of gigs at the Royal Festival Hall, accompanied by a full orchestra. These shows were recorded and released as Other Aspects in 2018.
In 2020, following the release of On Sunset, Paul Weller announced Mid-Sommer Musik, a 60-minute live stream show set to be broadcast on 12 November 2020.
In October 2023 Weller was announced to headline Edinburgh Castle on 14 July 2024.

Fantastic experience of non stop music for two hours. Great mix of songs from the years. Brilliant night. Very enjoyable
Like a fine Wine Continuing to Mature with all the best ingredients Being a life long fan, of this wonderful, talented and diverse musician I absolutely loved the passion, professionalism and the great mix of catalogue songs which was shared with the audience. Nothing but to salute you Mr Weller and your band..
Absolutely brilliant that's all I can say so good, so good 😊
The man, the legend did not disappoint. Absolutely brilliant!
Another great concert from mr Weller. Not the best weather but soon forgot about rain when he went through his new album 66 and played some oldies.Wife happy as her faves were played at end of night(pebbles & u do something to me )
Loved the concert but above all was the customer service Ticketmaster provided. I made an error when buying tickets and needed accessible tickets. Day before concert I noticed and the problem was rectified immediately. They were so good in changing over tickets.
Such a fantastic venue and an amazing set . Paul Weller at his absolute best!
Fantastic evening with Paul Weller at Edinburgh castle. The only downside is the constant up and down of people going to the bar and then obviously the toilet… this behaviour disrupts your night other than that a great night. Look forward to the next time.
Once again Paul plays a great set list, mixing up with newer stuff/esolo stuff first, before delving into his back catalogue, with a couple of style council songs, back to more solo material, before again playing better know tunes, from earlier solo material and jam songs, with his back catalogue he could easily swap ten songs in & out set list, but mixture was excellent & the band were all playing their part in making it a great occasion
Absolutely fantastic, great set in a beautiful setting. Would definitely do it again
Paul Weller was fantastic as ever, he's music was excellent. But spare a thought for Barbara the band that fronted for him, they were out of this world and I will be going to see them when they come back to Edinburgh in November.
A rainy night in Edinburgh and a iconic background of Edinburgh Castle holding Mr Paul Weller 66 tour. From the start to the the end it was entertainment. He brought different music to the ears of his audience who came from different generations and appreciative of Mr Weller's styles of music. He had a group of excellent musicians this was a pure recipe for sure brilliant music genius. He made a rainy in Edinburgh shine with his music. Until the next time, thank you Paul Weller
Another brilliant set at Edinburgh castle once more by the Modfather himself. Pure energy and brilliance from Paul and the band from start to finish!! Paul and Steve were looking super cool as they treated their audience to a fantastic set which incorporated old tunes with new and had Edinburgh rocking.
The rain was truly abysmal but it didn't damped the atmosphere created by a truly outstanding performance by Paul Weller ably supported by a terrific band.
Into double figures seeing this legendary man, always puts on a great performance never lets us down
Absolutely amazing, set list has the crowd signing and dancing the whole time and what a voice .. timeless and can't wait to see him again!
My 6th time seeing Weller live, with the first being with The Jam in 1982. Superb performance from the entire band and I swear Weller's voice is getting better with age.
Well it was outside at the Esplande in Edinburgh so no guesses it did rain. Was a tad annoyed that people didn't read the instructions, no umbrellas and would have thought at the gate checks these would have been confiscated. Waterproof ponchos were available to purchase so can't see why people allowed to flout the rules ! The steps are metal and as such made it slippy underfoot with a couple of people having nasty falls. Maybe add rubber strips to make it safer. That a side prepared for the weather we took our seats. The support act Barbara I quite liked a bit Gilbert O'Sullivan esk my husband wasn't so keen. The Mod Father on the other hand what can I say?! An amazing concert sound and light show first class. His voice as crisp and clear as if listening in the privacy of my own home. A first class concert the only dampener was the Scottish weather but no bad weather just inappropriate clothing .
Just love the Paul Weller gigs. The band come on stage, no frills and play for 2hrs straight. Perfect.
Great venue and a fantastic performance by Paul and his band. A brilliant playlist that spanned the years so had something for everyone and everything for each of us. We've seen Paul quite a few times in numerous venues and it's brilliant to think that at 66 he looks to be in his prime.
