The Modfather plays Edinburgh Castle July 2024
Few people have had as great an influence on the British music scene as Paul Weller. As frontman of The Jam, Weller spearheaded the Mod revival in the late '70s and early '80s, scoring a string of hits, including Going Underground and A Town Called Malice. After The Jam split in the early '80s, Weller immediately formed the neo-soul and American R&B-influenced Style Council with The Merton Parka’s Mick Talbot. Following their disbandment in 1990, Weller embarked on a solo career, with Talbot remaining as a regular contributor.
As Britpop began to dominate in the early and mid '90s, Weller’s influence became apparent, particularly on the likes of Oasis, Blur and Ocean Colour Scene. Following a successful solo bow with his self-titled debut in 1992, Weller teamed up with OCS guitarist Steve Craddock for his second solo album Wild Wood, an album that saw both Weller and Ocean Colour Scene move up the charts.
Buoyed by the success of the top ten hit The Changingman, Weller’s third solo album Stanley Road went straight to No.1 in 1995. With major players like Noel Gallagher acknowledging his influence, Weller became known as the godfather of Britpop or the “Modfather”.
Despite claiming that 2001’s well-received Heliocentric would be his final studio album, Weller continued to be productive throughout the '00s, releasing two live albums, a collection of covers and three further studio albums.
Weller started off a new decade as relevant as ever, earning a Mercury Prize nomination for 2010’s Wake Up The Nation. His follow-up Sonik Kicks debuted at No.1 while its successor Saturn’s Pattern went close, landing at No.2 on the UK album charts. In 2017, Weller released his first film score, for the boxing film Jawbone.
Weller’s 2018 album True Meanings found the songwriter backed by an orchestra, and he went on to promote the record with a series of gigs at the Royal Festival Hall, accompanied by a full orchestra. These shows were recorded and released as Other Aspects in 2018.
In 2020, following the release of On Sunset, Paul Weller announced Mid-Sommer Musik, a 60-minute live stream show set to be broadcast on 12 November 2020.
In October 2023 Weller was announced to headline Edinburgh Castle on 14 July 2024.

Paul weller holding back the years a brilliant concert from start to finish
Great to see Paul Welles in Glasgow. Always outs on an awesome set.
Fantastic night at City Hall, Newcastle. Paul Weller and his band were brilliant, the crowd sang along creating an amazing atmosphere. One of the best gigs I've been to. Will definitely be going to more!
Good venue. Good gig. Rattled through number of old and new songs across his career. Great band and Weller still got a great voice. Fantastic 2nd encore with a couple of The Jam classics. Only negative with venue was a lack of cloakroom, which made it a bit of endurance test with heat in the hall and nowhere to put jackets.
Paul again surrounded himself in excellence,in the shape of the band. I have been fortunate enough to be able to follow Paul since the 70s. Friday night at the City Hall was probably one of the best gigs I've seen. Tracks from in the city right through to 66, for 2 1/2 hours was mind blowing, and as usual brilliance of live arrangements was stunning. Stopping mid finale, so assistance could be given to a fan just shows the compassion of the man. I hope and prayer for many more nights like this.
Absolutely brilliant. Entertained his audience for 3 hours. Songs from every era especially The Jam, roll on the next one.
We've seen Paul perform 6 times over the years, he just gets better and better. Glad to see he is playing more of his back catalogue from the style Council, jam and his older hits, previously he would shun them, but he seemed to be enjoying playing them to a very exited audience. His band is brilliant, Steve Craddock is a perfect foil for him, and the brilliantly written songs show what's fabulous artist he is. Thank you Paul for keeping it live, your devoted fans have been with you for many decades and still love the thrill of hearing and seeing our history being performed with heart and soul.
This must be about my 40th Weller gig since The Jam split back in 1982. He and his band never fail to impress despite the energy being toned down slightly. I've never seen him or his band interact with the audience on this scale. Weller has certainly mellowed in his years. A great mix of songs including some of my favourites from Stanley Road. Great to see Steve Craddock on guitar again; he helps make the performance!
Could not use phone as our tickets poor wifi with so many people trying to access Concert was very good
This guy just loves performing great show good mix of new n old favourites
Sounded like he did 30 years ago, still smashing it out and was absolutely brilliant. The City Hall in Newcastle is still the best venue in the world and it's great to see bands like this - Superb all round, what a great night !
As always, never disappointing , great atmosphere and a top musician. Keep on rockin!
Brilliant never stopped all night well done to all the band and venue
Paul Weller can still sing all of his tunes from The Jam days through to current album and has a great band backing him.
Weller and His Band Were Excellent Never Disapoints
I received my barcode for the gig a couple of days before, the codes worked without a hitch and we were into tge gig. Paul Weller was in great form, his voice was rich and he played songs in the first half which I didn't know but felt better for hearing. He had the audience waiting for his next exquisite song, he did songs from every decade of his career and enraptured me for the two hours he was on stage. AWESOME GIG.
Paul and the band never disappoint, an amazing catalog of music, enthusiasm and passion loghts up on stage every time
Wonderful, old stuff, new stuff, great stuff!! He's 66 and continues to get better and better…
Amazing mix of old and new tracks. Outstanding performance by the whole band and of course Paul at his best. Fabulous night out.
Mr Weller just improves with age! Brilliant band. Amazing sound. Great tunes. Great memories. Awesome night out. xx
