About

Heaton announces new album The Mighty Several alongside UK dates for Winter 2024

Paul Heaton is one of the UK's most successful songwriters with well over 15 million album sales under his belt. He first came to public attention in the early '80s as the frontman of Hull-based indie-pop band The Housemartins, who are best known for their third single 'Happy Hour' and their No.1 acapella cover of The Isley Brothers' 'Caravan Of Love'.

In 1988 Heaton formed The Beautiful South, which released 10 hugely successful albums – from 1989's Welcome To The Beautiful South to 2006's Superbi. Jacqui Abbott was lead vocalist for some time in The Beautiful South and she sang many of their signature hits including 'Rotterdam', 'Don't Marry Her' and 'Dream A Little Dream'.

Heaton released his first solo album, Fat Chance, in 2001, and went on to release two further solo albums: 2008's The Cross-Eyed Rambler and 2010's Acid Country.

In 2011, Heaton wrote a musical called The 8th based on the seven deadly sins and asked Abbott to sing one of the parts. They went on to release three top five-charting albums as a duo: 2014's What Have We Become, 2015's Wisdom, Laughter And Lines and 2017's Crooked Calypso.

Heaton put together a career-spanning collection of his music in 2018 – from The Housemartins and The Beautiful South to his solo and duo work – titled The Last King Of Pop.

The year 2022 saw Heaton reach a significant birthday, which he celebrated in typically idiosyncratic style by putting £1,000 behind the bar of 60 carefully chosen pubs across the UK and Ireland so that fans could have a drink on him.

Heaton and Abbott's released N.K-Pop in October 2022, preceded by the poignant ballad ‘Still’, which was described as "beautifully heartbreaking" by Dawn French, and the gospel pop song ‘Too Much For One (Not Enough For Two). To support the new album, Heaton and Abbott confirmed a UK tour in November - December 2022.

On 26 June 2024, Heaton performs a special summer outdoor show at Cardiff Castle. Featuring guest singer Rianne Downey, the show will see
Heaton performing songs from throughout his career including classic tracks from The Beautiful South and The Housemartins.

Heaton's announced a new solo album, The Mighty Several, in 2024. Produced by The Lightning Seeds' Ian Broudie, the album is set for an October release with the single 'Fish "N' Chip Supper' coming out in June. Heaton also announced UK tour dates for November and December 2024, with Downey again appearing as a special guest and support The Zutons.

Seen him at the new co op live. Amazing! It was like listening to him on the radio. Sang songs everyone knew. Great band as well. They all seemed down to earth & genuine, which shown in him charging £50 a ticket. Would we go see him again? NO DOUBT 100%.

  • Disabled experience

by Music man on 19/12/2024Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

I am writing as I was on the Disabled platform and is aimed at the people who are not Disabled and went to this event. The strictly come dancing winner Chris Mcausland made a comment it's people's attitudes towards Disabilities that need changing which is very appropriate for my experience. One man in particular thought it was his right to place his drinks and coat on the platform in from of a man in a wheelchair which for me shows his total lack of respect for the Disabled however this attitude is not a rare incident. There were up to 20 people who rested themselves on the walkway against the platform. We asked all to move some where respectful others not so much which is pretty shocking and selfish. My partner and I explained why this is a walkway security will move you and it's a Disabled platform one man I don't think even realised this We tweeted the arena and security were them much better moving people on from this point. I will be attending on the Disabled platform next year and don't really want to be having to ask people to move on it did affect my enjoyment the thought of conflict with people who had been drinking. The security where good after that initial nobody around Just to show some people are respectful I went to culture club in a different area a man was amazing respectful as he was tall in front of us and was aware and moved to help our view All Disabled people ask I can only speak for myself is that you consider other people there view and how your actions can affect other people's enjoyment and experience at a concert We are all there to enjoy it and there has been a change over recent years of people standing up the whole concert just consider if the person behind you can stand it may not always be obvious they have a Disibility The co-op have been much better in controlling this aspect and have enjoyed a lot of concerts with people I would also like to comment being Autistic I had a real problem trying to get inside in the lift to my place which is not normal There was a communication problem trying to access the Disabled platform the man dident seen to know where it was We eventually had to say we know where it is and how to find it I understand lots of concerts and different staff is my experience however training may be an area to look at of the venue seating plans Last week at Culture club we were educating the person on the numbering of seating and where to sit in Disabled seating on first level which I would not expect to have to do. I am giving feedback to improve performance not to criticise. I understand new venue and takes time and on the whole you are doing well

  • Paul Heaton - incredible, ticket apps? Not so much!

    by Nicky P on 17/12/2024Co-op Live - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Absolutely love Paul Heaton, musical legend and never fails to deliver. Booked tickets through ticketmaster… have the app, downloaded my tickets, saved them to Apple wallet…. Got to venue.. tickets won't work.. you need the Coop Live app, log in ( through your ticket master account) and then the same tickets work… WHY WHY WHY? Ridiculous waste of time and energy messing about. No good for people who struggle with technology. Get it sorted! If I book through ticketmaster then my tickets on the official ticket master app should be enough for me to get in!
