The mod heroes return

Ocean Colour Scene’s rip-roaring live shows have long been one of the most extraordinary sights in modern rock – communal outpourings of hope and joy which boast the most life-affirming sing-a-longs you’ll ever hear.

OCS remain one of the most successful, and most loved, bands of the modern era. Having spent six years fine-tuning their sound, they lit up the Britpop party, chalking up three Top 5 albums – 1996’s Moseley Shoals, 1997’s Marchin’ Already and 1999’s One From The Modern – and a run of nine successive Top 20 single’s including the immortal ‘The Riverboat Song’ (in total they have seventeen Top 40 singles and six Top Ten singles).

In the years since they’ve honed their craft in the spirit of the soul, folk and blues greats who inspired them – returning the favour in 2018 when they took Martha Reeves and The Vandellas out on tour. “We couldn’t quite believe that Martha Reeves was supporting us, it seemed absurd,” says Simon Fowler. “But our crowd loved it, she went down really well.”

Great day/night in Liverpool, On The Pier Head From Embrace, Cast & OCS just wow 👌 Took me back to when I went to see them all years & years back , guys they were still as fresh as the days they first stepped on stage... Already bagged my OCS, Charlatans, Shed Seven, Snow Patrol & Cast tickets for 3025 Roll on Summer ☀️

Overall a good day, but few things can be better. Not enough tables in VIP area - especially as you are not allowed folding chairs in. Bars - terrible queues. 30 mins to get a drink- and who thought up the idea of sending people to stand behind people at bar needs to think again. Send the people at front of the queue to a space at the bar, not some random place in an area near the bar. Travel in and out seem to be well organised and made things easy- better than say the Hydro car park!

  • Amazing night

by El duderino on 15/07/2024Tynemouth Priory and Castle - TynemouthRating: 5 out of 5

Got into the venue with minimum fuss, and btw the venue is amazing (the Priory is an inspired choice for a music venue). Both Roachford and Ocean Colour Scene were great. Drinks were a tad on the expensive side, but is to be expected these days. Even the great British weather couldn't spoil the evening. Nice...

I heard rumours that the event may be cancelled so was in 2 minds to go.. But what a day/night!! The sun shone down on our magical scouse harbour, the atmosphere was fantastic even when the rain came down unnoticed by many im sure due to the amazing performances. I was totally mesmorised, reliving my youth to the melodies from cast and ocean colour scene! Fantastic night and well done to everybody involved...spot on!

This band sound as fresh and as relevant as they did back in the day. Truly gifted musicians.

Started to rain as the band came on. From the first note to the last nobody noticed or cared if they did. For an hour we went back to 1990s again. Lost nothing in sound and vocally as good as ever.
