ABOUT MOULIN ROUGE! THE MUSICAL

Directed by Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a theatrical celebration like no other.

Overflowing with glitz, grandeur and glory, it takes audiences to a place and time where Bohemians and aristocrats rubbed elbows and revelled in electrifying enchantment.

Harkening back to the tragic myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Moulin Rouge! The Musical tells the story of a young composer named Christian, who enters a world of splendour, romance and eye-popping excess. Set in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris during the Belle Époque, Christian falls head over heels in love with Satine, the star of the Moulin Rouge cabaret and the object of another man's obsession.

Inspired by the Academy Award-winning 2001 film directed by Baz Luhrmann, the score for Moulin Rouge! The Musical weaves together a mash-up of songs from popular music to capture Christian and Satine's tumultuous affair while also celebrating truth, beauty, freedom and, of course, love.

With a book by John Logan, Moulin Rouge! The Musical premiered in Boston in 2018, before opening on Broadway the following year and garnering 14 Tony Award nominations including Best Musical in 2021.

The London production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical also features music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Justin Levine as well as choreography by Emmy Award nominee Sonya Tayeh.

"Moulin Rouge! is more than a musical, it is a state of mind."
