Monty Python's Sir Michael Palin announces There And Back – The Diary Tour 2024

Michael Palin has written and starred in numerous TV programmes and films, from Monty Python and Ripping Yarns to The Missionary and The Death of Stalin. He has also made several much-acclaimed travel documentaries, his journeys taking him to the North and South Poles, the Sahara Desert, the Himalayas, Eastern Europe and Brazil. His books include accounts of his journeys, novels (Hemingway’s Chair and The Truth) and several volumes of diaries.

Previous solo theatre shows include The Thirty Years Tour (2015) and Erebus, Python and Other Stories (2019). From 2009 to 2012 he was president of the Royal Geographical Society, and in 2013 he was made a BAFTA fellow. Michael was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George in the 2019 New Year Honours’ List.

In 2022, Michael Palin brought tales of two of the most extraordinary journeys he’s ever made to the stage in a solo tour, From North Korea Into Iraq.

In 2024, Palin announced a 13-date UK tour, bringing his forthcoming diary There And Back (published by Orion on 26 September) to the live stage. Ten years since his last published diary, Michael unlocks volume four of his life and times, from 1999 to 2009. As the centuries change and Michael heads into middle age, he’s busier than ever. In this new show, with the help of rarely seen photos and video, Michael brings these momentous times to life as he talks through this latest Diary to take us backstage on this most productive decade of his life, whilst always, in the background, showing us the wider world, one of infinite possibilities and new and unimagined dangers.

Just as Cleese said. Non stop from the moment he walks on stage, reminiscing bygone times with humour and authenticity. Only for the half time break did he take a breath apart from the interlacing of film clips. Inspirational and fortunate young man. Kept doing the maths to work out his age. Hes a bit of a duracel rabbit , just keeps going. Thanks for the laughs.
