About

Celebrating her self-titled album with UK shows

Born Melanie Jayne Chisholm, Melanie C rose to prominence as one fifth of pop megastars Spice Girls in the latter half of the '90s. Responding to an advertisement calling for female vocalists to form a new girl group, Melanie C – soon to be Sporty Spice – ultimately teamed up with Geri Halliwell, Victoria Adams, Melanie Brown and Emma Bunton, going on to celebrate global acclaim and quickly cementing themselves as musical and cultural powerhouses.

Melanie C and her bandmates released three studio albums and topped the official UK singles charts with the likes of WannabeSay You'll Be ThereViva ForeverGoodbye and Too Much.

Simultaneously, Melanie C began building a solo career. She teamed up with Canadian rocker Bryan Adams in 1998 for the hit single When You're Gone and released her first solo single Goin' Down in 1999, taken from her triple Platinum album Northern Star.

The record's title-track, the Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez featuring Never Be The Same Again and the UK No.1 single I Turn To You, quickly cemented Melanie C as a formidable performer in her own right. Her cultural impact on fashion also continued to grow, making her a driving force in the ever-evolving streetwear scene.

After celebrating countless awards and establishing the girl power movement, the Spice Girls ultimately disbanded in 2001.

Melanie C released three more solo albums in the '00s, including 2003's Reason, which featured the top ten single Here It Comes Again. Having parted ways with Virgin Records following the release, Melanie C launched her own Red Girl Records label, home to her subsequent releases. Maintaining her solo career, she once again joined forces with the Spice Girls for their 2007 reunion, and in 2009 made her stage debut as Mrs Johnstone in the musical Blood Brothers.

Entering the '10s, Melanie C received a coveted Oliver Award nomination, winning the WhatsOnStage Award for her role in Jesus Christ Superstar in 2013. Throughout the decade, she released three more studio albums on her Red Girls Records label, as well as expanding her vast repertoire by appearing as a judge on Asia's Got Talent and by establishing herself as a globally sought-after DJ. Continuing to release music and perform, Melanie C rounded out the decade with a second Spice Girls reunion, filling stadiums across the globe.

In 2020, Melanie C announced her self-titled eighth studio album alongside a full European tour for 2022, including four shows in the UK. She also performed a virtual gig in support of the record on 1 October 2020 – the day before the album's release.
