Liam Gallagher announces new album with John Squire alongside UK dates
The news that Manchester's Liam Gallagher and John Squire were collaborating on a new project ignited a wave of anticipation – uniting the personality and attitude of the Oasis frontman’s vocals with the remarkable guitar talents of The Stone Roses’ creative force would surely be something special.
Their debut track, ‘Just Another Rainbow’, lived up to the hype as it hit No.16 on the UK singles chart while also shooting direct to No.1 on the sales, downloads, vinyl and physical singles charts – in the process achieving Liam’s highest singles chart entry in fifteen years.
But that was just the start. Now Liam Gallagher and John Squire announce much more from their collaboration. Their self-titled debut album will be released on March 1st and is today launched alongside its second single, ‘Mars To Liverpool’. They also announce details of their first UK tour together, as well as select shows in Ireland, France, Germany, Italy and the USA.
Like ‘Just Another Rainbow’ before it, ‘Mars To Liverpool’ delivers exactly what you’d hope from the pair. Delivering infectious rock ‘n’ roll with an undercurrent of ‘60s-tinged psychedelia, it sees John weaving inventive guitar work – chiming riffs, fluid classic rock solos – around Liam’s uplifting vocal delivery. As with the best of their work from their famous bands and solo work, ‘Mars To Liverpool’ elevates its air of melancholy into a soaring, crowd-pleasing anthem. So that’s now two killer singles to maximise anticipation for the release of the album.
Long-terms friends with a mutual admiration for each other’s work, the idea of a collaboration started when John joined Liam on-stage at his biblical Knebworth shows. Song ideas were soon flowing, and the album took shape with an intuitive intensity during in Los Angeles with the revered producer Greg Kurstin. He played bass throughout the record, while drums were performed by Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M., Atoms For Peace).
Liam says, “I can't wait for people to hear the album. I think the people that are into the Stone Roses and Oasis and that kinda thing, I think they'll fucking love it. It's spiritual, it's crucial. LG x"
John adds, “It was really inspiring to have those Knebworth gigs fresh in my mind as I started writing. Then it was a case of trying to steer it away from all being too rocky, and trying to mix up the sentiments as well. I like the way that in some parts, it's quite melancholic and it can make you well up, but there are other parts that are kind of irreverent, rude or crude. There's a little bit of everything in there, I think it's a really good mix. I had a hunch that we’d sound good together, but I wasn’t prepared for it to be such a good fit.”
Pre-order the self-titled new album before 15:00, Thursday 30 January for presale access to their UK tour.
A great concert by Liam and band and supporting acts. The venue Co-op Live was very well organised and a brilliant arena.
The whole experience was brilliant! From going in to coming out. Sat in the amp club…which was quality! Brilliant seats,no queues for drinks or toilets. The staff are on another level to any venue I've visited before(I've been to a lot of gigs) only con is the price of drinks. £8.35 for a pint of lager is expensive but you can see why prices are at a premium because of how good the venue & staff are. I'll be visiting again soon.
Great gig, brilliant entertainer. Shame about the over priced drinks and long ques for the toilet. Was in the disabled section which started off well but then turned in to chaos. The poor steward was asking her supervisor for help but he wasn't interested in the slightest. Everyone was just standing in front of the disabled quests, blocking their views and being rowdy, throwing drinks everywhere. The co-op arena really need to sort this out.
I can honestly say the LG DM30 tour at Co-op live arena was by far the best gig I've seen LG do! Visuals and acoustics were just amazing! He sounded better than ever. Crowd was roaring. Arena staff were great. If anything to have moan about I'd say the arena needs more food outlet options given size of the place and nothing has ever really been in the area as eatery. But yeah it was a night that gave us a memory for life! Cheers LG
Absolutely amazing atmosphere was electric can never go wrong with LG
Absolute brilliant night, a sing a long with 23500 others. A great night which I took my 14 year old to see what I had when I was 14 years old back in 1994. Hope he does a morning glory tour next year!
Great night to remember Liam was well up for Manchester home coming, just brilliant
From pre drinks at the outside bars on the canal side, which is a lovely set up through to the show itself, a perfect experience which was well organised, no queues, event staff friendly and amazingly helpful. Onto the show itself, Villanelle and CAST were fabulous openers. But my god when Liam hit the stage the place erupted. Every song was on point and the crowd just made it even better. No negatives at all simply SUPERsonic
Venue was really good but why do they all have to charge so much for food and drink!! It spoils it
Absolutely fantastic show, Liam sounded brilliant and looked as hot as ever, fantastic new venue, I only wish I was going again tonight
This was my first time attending the Co-Op arena in Manchester. And what a night it was, watching Liam Gallagher. The venue was rocking, the beer was flowing, this was exactly how the night should have been. I wish I could do it all over again.
What a great show Liam puts on. Love his humour too! The crowd was awesome. Showed the best of Manchester.
Nobody does it better !! Seeing him on the 24th in Dublin was my 5th time seeing him and probably one of the best !! One of a kind and the greatest of all time 👏🏻
Best concert I've attended. Absolute bangers from start to finish. Great crowd, great venue. Would do it all again in a heartbeat.
Great show, Liam was top notch. Support acts were crackin. Visit to the Ovo and Ticketmaster experience were faultless.
Although a great night was had I am extremely disappointed that tickets were a £100 a piece and Liam played for an hour and a half! I attended another gig by foo fighters two nights previous for the same ticket price and was entertained for 3 whole hours!! Liam put on a good show but he still lacks the ability to interact with his fans! Banging out tune after tune was the exact reason the show was only an hour and a bit long!!!
Tonight I'm a rock n roll star It's just rock n roll It's just rock n roll Liam Gallagher's mantra at the end of his blistering take on Oasis' Rock n Roll Star really hit home last night. His brothers words are almost casually tossed away in the outro. But .... as 13,000 fans will testify, it's not just rock n roll. 30-years on, it is about; the songs, the attitude, the swagger, the hair, the hope, the dreams and the sense of optimism that Oasis heralded in 1994 with the release of 5 singles and Definitely Maybe. It's more than all that, it's the sense of community Oasis created. It's jubilation, it's punching the sky, hugging and singing with strangers and having the time of your life. 5 lads from a Manchester council estate were mad for it, they were having it, and they blew absolutely everyone and everything away. The ripple effects are still there, they are still growing. 13,000 Oasis fans were in the Hydro last night, but the biggest fan of Noel Gallagher's songs was on stage singing them, with every fibre of his body, every bit of his heart and soul. Liam was in his element. This is what he was born to do. Sing his brothers songs about dreaming, escapism and love. And of course, Liam Gallagher was born to be a total star. Look at you now, you're all in my hands tonight We were gladly in his hands. We were mad for it, like it was 1994 all over again. The stage set up was loosely based on the Definitely Maybe cover, but everyone's eyes were on Liam. Rock n Roll Star set a high bar, the menacing groove of Columbia followed. Shaker Maker didn't reach those highs, the guitars seemed to go lower and Liam's voice was pushed even higher in the mix. But Up In The Sky sounded super fresh with everyone feeling it. I can feel you Can you feel me? Bring It On Down was searing punk soul and old b-sides Cloudburst and I Will Believe were greeted like long lost friends on stage and in the crowd. One of many highlights was Liam singing Half A World Away along with every single person inside the Hydro. A beautiful and moving moment, his voice was outstanding. My favourite Oasis song is probably Fade Away and it was incredible last night, delivered with power, pace and passion. The band ripped through it and it felt electrifying. Another b-side! But before long, Liam and his band were bringing out the real big guns. Whatever felt like a real anthem, the Hydro felt like a church and everyone was singing this huge Oasis hymn. The melodies of Whatever are really strong, the lyrics are universal - everyone was singing from the bottom of their hearts. Then it was Cigarettes & Alcohol and the place was absolutely bouncing, seeming to give Liam an extra shot of energy as he stretched out sssssuuuuunnnnnssssshhhiiiiiinnnnnneeee. After Married With Children, the band regrouped quickly for a BOOM, BOOM, BOOM encore. Supersonic sounded very aptly named and threatened to take the roof off the Hydro. Slide Away was euphoric and Live Forever was spine tinglingly gorgeous. Liam was in fine voice. I Am The Walrus sent the crowd home deliriously happy. What a show. What a night.
Brilliant from start to finish - everything from vocals to visuals. Would love to hear another of the Oasis albums done like this!
What can I say … firstly The View were outstanding, I'll defo try n get to a full gig. Liam was superb, voice amazing, presence - wow, Glasgow atmosphere brilliant! 10/10 all round.
Never fails the crowd voice on point. Who needs Noel ?
