A rising storyteller in Gen Z pop
Barely into her twenties, Lauren Spencer Smith has already enjoyed a wealth of milestone moments; from her viral singles ‘Fingers Crossed’ and ‘Flowers’ reaching Platinum certification, to performing coveted slots at the MTV VMAs and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Lauren Spencer Smith is a British-born, Canadian-raised singer-songwriter who has risen to international fame thanks to her accomplished vocals and inherent ability to distill complex Gen Z emotions into chart-topping hits. Growing up in the remote reaches of Vancouver Island, Spencer Smith began posting covers on social media as a teenager, putting out powerful renditions of Lady Gaga’s ‘Always Remember Us This Way’ and Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘All I Want’. By 2019, she had already cultivated a global following and was being rewarded with tens of millions of views and listens. In 2020, Spencer Smith made it to the top twenty as a contestant on American Idol, which ultimately led to the young singer-songwriter signing a deal with Island Records and Republic Records.
Since then, the artist's music has continued to resonate with fans all over the world, propelling her to more than 4 billion streams to date and opening doors for award nominations, prestigious appearances and sell-out tours. Moving fluidly between pop, pop-rock and power ballads, Lauren Spencer Smith has maintained a vulnerability in her songwriting, insisting “I write songs that I didn’t have when I went through my personal experiences so no one has to ever feel alone”. Her 2022 track ‘Fingers Crossed’, which peaked at No.19 on the Billboard Hot 100, is the perfect example. Reflecting on the aftermath of a break up, the song’s candid authenticity and powerhouse vocals proved perfect for TikTok, with it becoming her biggest release to date. Elsewhere, taken from her 2023 debut full-length album Mirror, ‘Best Friend Breakup’ grapples with the often overlooked pain of losing a platonic friendship. With its cathartic lyrics and driving backdrop of rock-inspired guitars, Lauren Spencer Smith performed the track live on The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Besides connecting with her listeners on a personal level, Lauren’s releases have also been met with rapturous critical acclaim beyond her years. Her album Mirror received praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard, The Guardian and more, while racking up an incredible 900 million Spotify streams across the 15 heartfelt tracks. Meanwhile, her live shows have captivated fans from all over the world, most recently on her global headlining tour which saw the rising star play a string of 42 sold-out cities.
In October 2025, Spencer Smith will play UK dates as part of her THE ART OF BEING A MESS European tour, with shows in London, Glasgow, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Birmingham and Bristol.
